Topic: RE: Partial revision of MGB
Hey I am wishing the best for you and I hope you have gotten something figured out or resolved by now. I am thinking seriously about having the MGB myself. So when ever you are feeling well enough I would love to hear how things did go for you. Just hang in there and know that people are thinking of you and wishing only the best for you
Topic: MGB questions?
Hi I am new here. I having been researching the MGB and so far seem to like it best over the other surgeries I have looked into. I was wondering if I could here from some post-op MGBers here. I was especially curious about revisions. I had read some where on this forum that MGB has a high rate of people needing revision. I went to the revision forum and found only 2 posts about needing MGB revisions due to bile reflux and weight gain. I honestly only went to page 11 so there maybe more. I dont know what to think of it all at the moment. I would like to hear from as many MGBers as possible to get some sort of idea.
I notice that a lot of other WLS patients seem to be anti-MGB for lack of a better word, and everyone is pushing whatever surgery they had. I understand that if I had a surgery with great results and little complications I would suggest it to everyone too:) But as a pre-op WLS researcher I am drowning in all the agruments about different surgeries. I would love to have some clarity...lol.
I have been to Dr.R's yahoo page and find it difficult to navigate and difficult to find answers to specific topics. I also want to hear information outside of what is on his site. No matter how great the surgery probably is, I would like to get a opinion outside the bias of his site. I want to hear it all. SO if anyone here can give me tips, advice, MGB stories ect. I would be forever greatful. Even if you havent had the surgery but know of someone personally that has I would love to hear from all people.
Thanks so much and I am sorry I was so long winded.

Topic: RE: MGB in Mexico
Please very careful about out of country surgery!
A friend of mine flew to England to save a few dollars. She had the Lap Band. She got back and a few weeks later started having problems. She had major problems getting support from England and the local doctors didnt want to intervene because they werent experienced with the proceedure or how to deal with it. Ultimately she almost died when the band slipped and caused her major issues which she lives with to this day. She had the band removed, now weighs more than ever and her health is worse than ever.
My advice. NEVER get yourself into a position where support is not close by. Your life may depend on it.
Best of luck!

I had the MGB over 2 years ago and I have nothing but positive things to say about the Mini Gastric Bypass proceedure, Dr Rutledge and CLOS.
I chose the MGB because:
Proceedure is statistically superior to Roux-enY in every way (fewer complications, deaths, etc)
Easily reversible if your body wont tollerate a bypass
Excellent patient education process
Excellent patient followup
Excellent proceedure training program
Excellent support group (pre and post-op)
I have lost over 171 lbs, have had no issues whatsoever, can eat anything I want and have had annual followup evaluations at the Mayo clinic where extensive tests show me to be extremely healthy with all of my blood work stats within the norm. and no health issues of any kind.
I researched WLS proceedures for over 2 years before I made my decision:
My best advice to those who are considering WLS of any kind:
There is risk in any type of WLS because none of our bodies (especially our complicated digestive systems) are identical:
Chose a surgeon with a good PROVEN track record,
Chose a proceedure which can be easily reversed if the surgery isnt right for your body
Chose a clinic that properly educates you on the risks associated with surgery, the importance of taking sufficient vitamins and supplements following surgery and followup annual blood testing
MOST IMPORTANT: Chose a surgeon who will provide you their cell phone number so if you have any questions or problems you can solve them quickly.
Topic: RE: Never hungry...is this normal?
The absolute best advice that my best friend gave he after his RNY was to "follow your inner voice." If you feel hungry and want certain soft foods, try them. If you don't feel hungry, go with that. It will change as time goes on. But do yourself a favor and take the advice. For me, I was a steak-and-potatoes guy pre-surgery. I didn't feel like having any beef for 7 months after my surgery- which was ok. Then I had just a small piece of a rib eye steak. I chewed it well, made sure it was moist, and cut very small pieces. Delicious. I, too, struggled with soft boiled eggs. Then, after several weeks, I could eat them better. For breakfast now, I often have 3-4 soft boiled eggs. Listen to your inner voice.

If recommended, try Dr. Douglas Krahn in San Bernardino and St. Bernadine Hospital. Absolutely fantastic results- if you are willing to follow the program completely. I was so happy to have him to mine 13 months ago. He will work with insurance companies to get approval. Try him.
Topic: RE: Who does this surgery and where?
Rochelle,
I had my surgery done in North Carolina by Dr. Dasher in March of 2005, so I am closing in on my two year anniversary! Things could not be better! I was 295 and down to 155! CRAZY! I feel incredible and have not had ONE problem! I used to get frequent headaches and full blown migraines about 4 times a year, frequent colds and diarehha all the time! Not one headache, no stomach flu (even when my kids have it), no migraines and normal "D"! I am not joking! It is absolutely crazy! I feel 10 feet tall and bullet proof!
Keep in mind that Dr. Dasher and Dr. Walsh are the first doctors that Dr. Rutledge trained! I felt very comfortable with my decision and the hospital was wonderful! No regrets! And that is my life motto! Check out my blog at www.highpointregional.com, go to patients and visitors and then I am listed as Joan. The pictures posted are over a year old and so is the post. When they broke off from CLOS, I assumed that I wasn't going to do the blog anymore but to my suprise it is still there! I am going to update. I just joined obesityhelp.com today but this is how I discovered MGB over two years ago. I had researched all the surgeries in detail and was way to scared to do any of them and then accidentially came across MGB while browsing Obesityhelp. I plan on posting pictures etc. soon on this site!
Good luck with your search! Let me know if I can be of further assistance!
Topic: RE: MGB Surgeons In Tulsa, Ok?
Hi Sandy,
Thanks! I have seen Dr. Rutledge's website. From what I understand he has his own version. I wish I could go to him, but I can't. I also found a Dr. Wanda Kaniewski in Kansas City and I heard there was one in Edmond, Ok.
Thanks again. I appreciate it!
Charla

Hi,
The doctors performing the MGB are located in only four states---Nevada, Michigan, Texas and Florida. Go to CLOS.net for information.
