Topic: RE: Weston FL - MGB - Rosenthal
Hi Barbi: Could you share with us, what Dr. Rosenthal had to tell you about the mgb that you decided for RNY.
Reason why, I´m asking you is that i am right now undecided for mgb, rny or vsg.
Thanks for your reply

Topic: RE: What happened to Dr. O'Brien???
Wow Mini, I'm surprised to hear that. I went to Dr. Obrien back in 2002 for the Lap MGB and I had a very "positive" experience with the surgery, the doctor, and his staff. Sorry that your experience wasn't good. If I had to recommend anyone to a specif WLS, I'm still a fan of Lap MGB as opposed to some of the others out there but my opinion is only one opinion too. I wish you the best and I'm sad to hear that he's stopped.

Topic: RE: MGB vs gastric sleeve
From what I have read the gastric sleeve does not do anything with the intestines. They just make a smaller stomach. But the pouches are bascially the same. After my mini bypass I was told my pouch was the shape of a "magic marker".

Topic: RE: MGB VS RYN
Hi,
The TRUE MGB was developed by Dr. Robert Rutledge who now performs the surgery in Las Vegas. Although my surgery was done by Dr. Walsh who was trained by Dr. R. and is no longer with CLOS, Dr. R. has also trained two other surgeons in Michigan and Florida. I had this surgery in 2004 and have gone from 392 to 178. Go to CLOS. net to find out all about this option. I have no regrets!

Topic: MGB VS RYN
I recently found a Dr I might can afford since I have no insurance, however he only does 3 surgeries....LAP ~ MGB ~ SLEEVE.....now can someone help me with the differences between the mini and the regular....
For those who have already had the MGB can you please tell me how fast and how much weight you have lost...as well as any side effects you may have experienced!
Thanks for all of the help!
Hugs, Susan

Topic: PS-Rio Quote
Okay, this is for those of you who had written to me and had asked me to write a follow-up on the consultation I had (in person) with the doctor that came to NY from Rio.
I met with him for about 1 1/2 hours on Saturday 4-22 in my Hotel. He brought his computer with a huge memor file that contained hundreds of photos of patients with whom he had done their work. He took the time and he explained what he did for them and I asked all the questions I wanted. He was very patient with me, spoke wonderful English pretty much, he was very nice and "extremely handsome! (whew)
Anyway, we spoke and I told him what I didn't like and he told me he would fix everything and I would pay the Hospital direct $1000-$1200 (depends on total OR time we end up using) and I only need to pay him $2000. For that $2000, he said he would lipo my tummy fat I have left, and the fat on my back. He would transfer that Fat to my butt and sculpt my butt for me. He would do a Vertical Incision on my abdomin to "cinch" my waist by pulling the excess skin from the back to my front and trimming it off there. I'm not sure if he will need to redo my belly button or not. He will also remove all remaining Bra Fat that the 1st Bra Fat surgery didn't get, and he will re-do my back fat incision line to get the remaining skin from my back at my shoulder blade area. I also mentioned that I already had my neck flab fixed once but that it was still there when I looked down. He said he could fix that and "I THINK" he's going to do that too for the $2000. Anyway, his prices (in my opinion) are much better than I could have gotten anywhere else in Brazil. AND, the Hospital he uses, he told me that movie stars and many rich people use this particular hospital. He said that he has "cheaper" hosptials he could use for us bu that most Americans dont' like the cheaper options. Anyway, I didn't at all find his costs to be outragous and I love the idea that I'm not going to be ripped off by Concierge. (not pointing to anyone/concierge in specific)
Again, this is only what I plan on doing and I don't preach to anyone else that what I do is the only way the rest of you should do. I only promised to share once I got back and once I heard more. And I hope this might help the rest of you. Tina, if you see this and if you have mroe questions (or anyone else) feel free to write. Peggy in Iowa

Anyone know for sure if Dr. O'Brien stopped doing the MGB or not?
Someone recently wrote me and said they called his office and he no longer does the Lap MGB. What's up??

Topic: RE: Any Surgeons in the State of WA that offer the MGB surgery
Hi Sandy~
I just joined ObesityHelp tonight and saw your message. It might be too late for you for this info (you may have already had some other surgery) but I wanted to reply anyways. There is not a surgeon in the state of Washington that does the MGB. I live north of Seattle and I went to near Las Vegas to have the minigastric bypass with Dr. Rutledge. It was totally worth it, even with the "hassle" of traveling out of state. I am 16 months post-op and down about 100 pounds.
God bless you and your husband for your sacrifices for our country's freedom! I will pray for his safety.

Topic: RE: Are there Surgeons not related to CLOS group?
I had the MGB in Nevada. I traveled from Oregon. The only pre-op appt. I had was the day before surgery and the morning of surgery. No need to go there before the actual surgery. You must stay there for a week for follow up, but they don't require that you go back later for a follow up. You must commit to annual follow ups with your local physician and report the findings to Dr. R. The packet they have you prepare is for your own knowledge so that you truly understand the process and what this surgery is and isn't. As part of the packet you must get a letter from your local doctor saying they will follow you post op and report annually.
The price is $17,000 and includes the surgeon's fee, hospital stay, and anesthesiologist. If a stay of longer than overnight is required, CLOS works with the hospital so the total cost is still $17,000.
They are not stringent on seeing your stats on total number of diets, how long, etc. but that is one of the questions they ask you. You want to show that you have tried and failed to lose the weight. They don't have a requirement to be on a 6 month supervised diet or anything.
I belong to the Yahoo group for the MBG and it appears from those that participate there, that the success rate is really high. I think somewhere on their site it talks about the success rate being better than the RNY. I think the MGBers on average lose more than 85% of their total weight to achieve ideal weight. And regain is low, like 5% rebound, after your body settles and stops the losing phase.
I think Dr. Hargroder in Joplin and the High Point people are the only non-CLOS drs. performing the MGB.
