Topic: What am I doing wrong?
Help!  What am I doing wrong?  Today is 1 year since my gps.  I am only down 105 lbs, and 48 total inches.  I should be way ahead of this by now.  I am losing steadily, but only about 1 lb a week.  Am I eating too much? I am still eating very little.  Am I that 1 person in 100 that this surgery dosen't work for?  I feel like a total failure.  I know everyone loses at their own rate, but this is very depressing.  I have a friend who had the surgery maybe 5 months ago and is already down 85 lbs!  Could this be because she is 30 years younger than me?

Topic: RE: Anyone from Ontario gone to the US for MGB?
Hi Dawn, I just happened across your post and thought i would reply. I am not having MGB but Roux-en-Y but i can answer some of your OHIP questions. I faxed my paper work into them June 21 then followed up by purolating them the originals same day.  I heard it takes 2-3 weeks to hear from them if you get an approval and sometimes up to 3 months and it will be denied. But then you can appeal. Mine has been in 2 weeks now..........my Doctor did get a fax from them the same day i sent them my paperwork asking what kind of surgery i was having because some forms of surgery are not covered by OHIP. He forgot to fill that part in.  This information was sent into them this week so i am hoping to hear back from OHIP next week. I think after your approval from OHIP its just the availability of the surgeon you want to see. Mine told me it would be October.  2nd Part of your question when you don't have a doctor.  On the OHIP out of country prior approval form it asks for " Referring Ontario Physician."   My family doctor did not want to sign it so I asked my orthopedic surgeon to and he was more than happy to since i had just had two total knee replacements within the past year.  He says the weight loss will improve the longevity of the knees.  The paper work i sent OHIP for approval was   Prior approval form, letter from orthopedic surgeon, letter from physiotherapist, x-ray reports, letter from chiropractor, letter from chiropodist, letter from myself as well as weight loss history , and shudder the thought some pictures of me. I thought if it makes the decission for me what the heck. Plus the odds i will ever meet anyone that saw these pictures is pretty low.  I would have my doubts if a nurse would be capable of signing the form but if thats all you have you can always try.  All they can say is no. Good luck in your quest and I am from Orillia Ontario so hi neighbour. If you would like to email me its [email protected] Wendy

Topic: RE: MGB in Michigan?
I am just getting used to this site but I wanted to mention that I had my MGB with Dr Doroghazi in Bay City Michigan on March 29, 2006--My surgery took approx 30 min duration. I was released from Bay Reg. Med Cntr 24 hours later and in the past 16 months I have gone from a size 22/24 down to a size 10 jeans and size 12/14 top. I'm 54 years of age--and at the time of my surgery I was a type 2 diabetic, taking meds for it and for high blood pressure; I had fatty liver disease and high cholesterol levels. All of these issues have been resolved. I go to aerobics classes 4x per week, nautilus weight training and walk 3 miles per day. Clearly I feel great... best money I ever spent!! The MGB was a tool to help me get back my health--it is not a magic wand---I feel great and have a new outlook on like and have added to the quantity and quality of my life.

Thanks Sandy.  My packet was accepted already, and I had over 40 contacts all saying if they had to do it again, the only thing they would do differently was run and jump on the operating table without any  worry!!

It was my understanding, too, that the report was just a misunderstanding that has been settled now.  I have complete faith in Dr. Rutledge and his abilities. Good luck with your surgery, and if you need a contact for your packet, please let me know.   Sandy

I have wondered the same thing.  I have received responses from one member who says that he answered a question wrong on his Nevada application to practice and that makes him unethical.  As I read the legal documents it appear that Dr. Rutledge had 7 patients in 2001 make complaints and the NC board investigated.  After a broad survey of his patients they found no basis in the complaints, so they dropped the investigation.  The big ruckus was that he did not report that he had been investigated when he applied in NV, which he later agreed to go back and document.   I am not used to a doctor being quite so flashy, but after all MY research I have decided this is the least invasion and effective surgery.  If you looked at lap band failures and complications I am certain it would far out weigh those of MGB.  With all that being said, I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Rutledge in August!

Topic: RE: What happened to Dr. O'Brien???

Please research Dr. Rutledge very carefully before you consider him.  There is a wealth of information out there.    You can go to the site on the North Carolina Medical Board website to read about him.  There is a public file against him.  Scroll down to all the public file entries.   Just paste the link into your browser.  According to the consent order (I think on the bottom of page 4 or 5, he admitted there was evidence which could show a lack of ethics and honesty on his application to practice in Nevada.  Additionally, the initial charges against him by the medical board are really disturbing and are never really well defended by him. http://www.ncmedboard.org/Clients/NCBOM/Public/Licensee_Deta ils.aspx?&EntityID=26088&PublicFile=1  It's a matter of public record, so I don't see anything wrong with posting it.  The more information we have regarding ethics of physicians we are considering, the better.

He is no longer licensed in North Carolina and was further even reprimanded by the NC Medical Board for not being fully honest about investigations against him in North Carolina as well on his application to practice in Nevada. http://glsuite.ncmedboard.org/DataTier/Documents/Repository/ 0/0/6/1/0f289ee1-8d65-4ae0-b111-ed87f7b528af.pdf I don't know - there's something disturbing to me about a doctor with this kind of record advertising on You Tube - even running his name and phone number across his videos.

I would rather have a surgeon without a public record against him personally. Anyway - all of the above is a matter of public record and found on the North Carolina Medical Board website.
