Topic: RE: To those researching WLS...
Hi there! I have a question for you if I could? I was lap-banded 5 years ago, and am considering the MGB. My husband who is WLS free is also considering the MGB. Unfortunately we were just out in Vegas and missed a golden opportunity to go to Dr. Rutledge's office for info directly. We had not been investigating it at this point yet. But I am heading to Florida, not too far from Davenport, and I plan on going to Dr. Peraglie's office for info. I know I won't get to see him personally, but I like to get a feel for a Dr's office and his/her staff. I was just curious how was your experience with Dr. Peraglie? I can get all the info I want on Dr. Rutledge, but not Dr. Peraglie. We are actually closest to Dr. Doroghazi in Bay city, Mi, but there is nothing about him on the clos website. Any insight you could offer would be appreciated. Thank you.....a.

Topic: Contacted Nature's Best about Micellar Milk....
I asked them why they were discontinuing the Micellar Milk and they said it was from lack of sales.
I told them that a lot of Bariactric surgery patients bought it and were upset that it was leaving.

Thanks for your reply, Kat.  I do not like the obesityhelp site.  It is so negative about the mgb so I really appreaciate your contact and encouragement. I am nervous as the time approaches but can think of nothing better to do for me than this surgery. blessings, Jo in 'Arkansas

I am one year out with the MGB and have had no problems of any kind including the bile back up etc. I have come from 266 to 181 and am healthier than I have ever been. You are always going to have the good and the bad because there are always going to be those who might have some issues but compared to those who don't out of the thousands who have any of the WLS it just doesn't compare.  It all goes back to deciding which surgery is the right one for you. Good luck in your journey. Kat

Topic: RE: Why so little activity on this forum
Hi Sandy, I am one year post op and happy with my success which was performed by Dr Hargroder in Joplin Missouri and who was trained by Dr Rutledge at one point but broke away from the clos.net group and has been successful on his own in Missouri. When researching the surgery initially I spoke with several who had their surgeries done anywhere from 3 years to 7 years out and had been successful. I didn't base it on those fairly short term such as myself because I wanted to know the long term especially since I was self pay and will be paying on this for a long time to come. I guess the question would be what things have been done differently between those who have regained and those who have not over the time period. A lot of people who have the RNY end up gaining a good portion of their weight back but I only know of two who have with this surgery and it was because of having to have revisions due to other health problems that came up afterwards. With that being said both are planning to have the MGB surgery again as soon as they are financially able. I researched the other surgeries for over a year before deciding on this one and wouldn't have gone any other way. Kat

Topic: RE: MGB complications/regrets?
I fit into your Group 3.  And I always thought that I wouldn't qualify for surgery because I didn't have at least 100 lbs. to lose.  However, I was plagued with several co-morbidities and a strong family history of some diseases that are exacerbated by obesity, so I was a candidate.  It's hard sometimes, as I get quite a bit of criticism for having a WLS in the first place, but I did what I thought I needed to do for my health.  Since I had such severe complications, I guess I will never know if the trade off was worth it or if my life will or will not be lengthened because of my choices.  We all do the best we can with the information we have at the time. Even with all I've been through, I still believe that I needed WLS.  Though I might have chosen something different with the information I have now.

Topic: RE: mini vs sleeve
I had an MGB that was revised to a gastric sleeve.  The intestines that were bypassed with my original MGB were put back so I don't have any malabsorption aspect anymore.  I lost too much weight with my original MGB, so this was the solution for me.  I never had considered the gastric sleeve for me in the beginning because I was sure I wanted the malabsorption tool as well as the restrictive tool of a smaller stomach.  Knowing what I know now, I probably would have chosen the sleeve for me, since I only needed to lose less than 100 lbs.  I think the sleeve can be really successful for lightweights.  The MGB could be too, if you can get the dr. to commit to only bypassing a smaller portion, say 3 feet insead of the standard 6 feet.  Though when they put me back together it was noted that I had MORE than 6 feet bypassed, even though that was all my records showed.

Topic: RE: mgb after vgs
I would think you could have this done.  I had the opposite done.  I had the MGB that was revised to a gastric sleeve because I lost too much weight.  Seems to me they would just need to go in and bypass the intestines like they do in the original MGB, since you already have the stomach part done.

I know Dr. Hargroder does the MGB, but I don't think he takes insurance either.
