Hello,

If you go to yahoo groups and join the "HPMGBfriends" group it is a bunch of his patients.

They are very helpful there.

Good luck!

hi Linda,

I just re read your betting 'dollars and nuts those called upon in the audience had been planted there."  I am not planted here and i am familiar with other Mgbers that have posted here and they are also not planted here.  There is not reason to plant people here.  People come here, including myself and talk about their experiences with the MGB and post op.  There ae also people looking for information.  The only place where I have come across any negativity is on this site.  There are thousands and thousands of people who post on the MGB site and also Dr. Peralgie's site with  their positive experiences as well as supporting those pre op and post op.  I know for me, I sure did alot of research on the web site to help me determine to have the MGB and I am so happy I did.  I have met so many others who have only experienced success.  I do understand as with any surgery, there can be complications.  I was confident going in to surgery that I was in the best of hands.

Hi Linda(great name by the way...wink, wink),

I am so sorry to hear about your friend.  Unfortunately, it does happen when some people have continued to lose too much weight..  I don't understand why Dr. Rutledge would not see her.  That is so unusual since the support is there from both him, and his staff and Dr. Peralgie(did my surgery) and his staff who are there pre and post op.  They are so committed to their patients are so adamate about letting them know if any problem should arise pre op.  Our success is their success.  Part of the contract pre op to have the MGB was to sign in agreement that if patients did not follow through on their post op follow u*****t follow through on what was recommended for their optimum health that Dr. Rutledge would possiblly discharge whomever as a patient.   I do not know  the cir****tances around your friend's situation post op with Dr. Rutledge and his staff.   That is sure scary what happened to her friend and what she has been through.   Thank God she will be okay.

I believe Dr. Rutledge would not see her.  She got another doctor to save her life, and that is exactly what he did.  She will be okay now, but had to endure a few months of tube feeding to get her weight and nutrition back up.

Unfortunately, it happens that people can lose too much weight and can become severely malnourished.  From my experience with the MGB since I had the surgery two and a half months ago, part of the contract agreement was that anyone who was having the MGB could not see another surgery for revision.  Your friend was well aware of that and signed a contract that she would not see another surgeon.  Dr. Rutledge and CLOS does not want to be responsible for another doctor possibly screwing up a revision.

Topic: RE: Gastric Bypass In Toronto HELP
Hi Shannon,

I had aproval for the Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery (least invasive, simplest, and less complications after surgery) from OHIP since I live in Ontario.  OHIP will not cover one penny towards lap band surgery due to it's unsuccessful rate and problems after.  I remember OHIP saying that specifically that they do not cover the Lap Band on the letter OHIP had sent me to inform me I had been approved for the MGB,   As Van had said preciously, go to MGB.com and you will find the information you need.  One thing not on that site is information around OHIP since they do not want to be seen as advocating for Ontarionians to apply for OHIP for this surgery.  For OHIP to cover, you must have a BMI of at least thirty with co morbidities.  My BMI was 45 and definately had comorbidities.

Another site set up by a post op MGBer is mgbhelp.com.  Since it was not established by the Mini Gastric Bypass site, this site has all the information on how to apply for OHIP.  If you would like, I can also send you an OHIP template and the do's and don't when your doctor fills out an OHIP form for out of country insurance coverage.  Most doctors have not had to fill out these out of country  coverage OHIP forms, so don't know how to fill them out.  It is better that you help them get it right the first time, so the application is not sent back as a denial.  There is an appeal process and those who have been turned down the first time, get it through their appeal.  I do have all the information you need to provided for your doctor.

Hugssssssssss comin'  back at 'ya

The MGB is the simplest and least invasive gastric bypass of all the surgeries out there.  It is also the  cheapest which costs $17,000.  This also includes any hospital stay.  Most people stay only one night.  The reason it is the cheapest is because one doesn't need hospital and nursing care compared to many of the other gastric bypass surgeries out there.

Topic: RE: MGB Confusion
The best thing is to do some research.  Go to the MGB web site (CLOS.net) and read, read, read,  and listen to the videos that are provided.  I had it done and it was the best thing for me.   I did a ton of research before hand since I wasn't going to just make a decision not being well informed.

There is only one Mini Gastric Bypass developed by Dr. Rutledge in Las Vegas and Dr. Caesar Peralagie in Davenport, Florida.  I have never heard of it being done in Mexico unless one of those doctors went there to perform surgery.  Since the MGB was developed by Dr.  Rutledge, there are not any other doctors who are able to perform the surgery, other than being accepted and trained by Dr. Rutledge.  The MGB is the simplest and least invasive surgery out there with less complications than any other surgeries.  I have done my research.

I don't know about them, but I just got some info from beliteweight.com about a program in Mexico, just south of San Diego. "Dr. Aceves is a highly experienced surgeon, in bariatric surgery. He performs the laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, the laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve and the Lap Band. He has also performed thousands of other laparoscopic surgeries. Dr. Alberto Aceves is a member of: American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity http://www.obesity-online.com/ifso/council.htm Fellow American College of Surgeons (FACS) Mexican Society of Obesity Surgery(currently Vice President) Mexican Association of Endoscopic Surgery Mexican Association of General Surgery General Surgeons college of Mexicali  I have no insurance and live in AZ, so this might be a solution for me.  Has anyone heard of this doctor who works through Almater Hospital or the beliteweight program?? I am just beginning my search for a physician and a program. What is the going rate for MGB pre-testing, care, surgery, and follow-up in the US and outside of it? Thanks in advance for you input.  sunsetinaz
