Hi,

Gas is a problem we face after surgery.  Contact your doctor regarding changes in your diet.  Eight days out isn't very long.  Hang in there. It will get better.

Has anyone else felt like this?? I still have regrets, I try to drink something and I can't, I feel like I am going to have a heart attack it hurts so bad. I can't eat either. I chew chew chew and I hurt. Will I ever be able to drink for real again?? I belched constantly and have started having diareah (sp) I have lost 13 lbs so far, but it hardly seems worth it to me. Please help- I feel myself sinking into a depression.

Nichole,

There are just too many advantages of the MGB to explain here, but if you will go to CLOS.net, you will find the information you need. Learn all you can, then make an educated decision. After losing almost 200 pounds, I am very happy with my choice.

I had the MGB in April 2007 and was bypassed approx. 7 feet.  I needed to lose 150 lbs and so far have lost 120 lbs.  I am happy with the weight I have lost so far.  The determination for the length of your bypass is determined by your surgeon based on your BMI, sex and his experience.  Dr. Rutledge has had the most experience but Dr. Peraglie is also a colon-rectal specialist.  My confidence was placed with Dr. Peraglie and I have not regretted that decision.  He has been with me every step of the way.  Do the research on both procedures and make the best decision for YOU.  My best wishes go with you for a safe journey.

You are fortunate to have insurance - I had none.  I ended up not choosing Dr Aceves because my better half insisted that I do it in the city I live in - just in case there were any complications that needed to be immediately addresses.

As it happened, because my surgery was a revision of a surgery done 35 years ago, there was a lot of scar tissue that needed to be dealt with, undoing the old surgery, and then doing an RNY.  I ended up going with the Bridges Centre program and with Dr. Daniel Fang who did an excellent job of discovering what the original stomach surgery was, undoing it and removing scar tissue internally and around the old incision and leaving a minimal scar from the open surgery.

245.7  Weight day of surgery
247.9  Weight 3 days after surgery (Dr. said gain was due to constant hydrating throgh the IV's)
237.0  Weight six days after surgery (Dr. must have been right!)

There are never any "plants" in the audience.  How silly!!!!  All we ask is that you do your research.  If you are interested in the MGB and are not happy with Dr. Rutledge, research Dr. Peraglie.  He is a wonderful, caring surgeon and is double board certified - bariatric surgeon and colon-rectal surgeon.  The MGB is reviseable and reversible and many conversions from the lap-band have been done by either surgeon.  Please do not short-change yourself and your health by listening to misinformation.  Research THOROUGHLY.
