Hi all!

Since moving to the boonies in north central PA, support is very limited.  But that is about to change.  I had a meeting with a few hospital authority members here at Cole and we are in the process of getting support groups going!  We are covering at least two counties up here to find out who is out there wanting or having had weight loss surgery.  We wil advertise in all forms of media to reach out.  We will have a variety of speakers and cooking classes and educational forums.  We will make sure the local doctors are aware of the need for knowing how to support their wls patients.  It is a very exciting project!

Hi,

I tink there is a recipe MGB list on the clos.net website.  If not, do a search in yahoogroups for MGB recipies.  I do think there is one.  I'm not much of a cook myself.  I do remember eating soft foods, but I don't remember making alot of different things.

Hi I'm searching for some ideas/recipes for the Stage 2 eating - mushy/pureed foods. I enjoy cooking and would like to make stuff at home that is flavorful. That said quick and easy foodstuffs is needed too.

I remember someone once posting a refried bean idea, someone else posted something that she said tasted like "Hoagie Dip" and some else wrote about ideas for crustless pizza ideas.

Any and all ideas welcome for high protien meal ideas with real food (not just shakes) that can be eaten during the "Mushy/Pureed" stage.

Thanks all -
Eileen

P.S. For surgery, only a referral is needed from your doctor in order to get surgery in Toronto.
Out of country surgery requires you and your doc to fill out a form and send it in for approval. They pay for the whole surgery but not for travel expenses.

Feel free to email me anytime,
Dawn

Hmmm...

If you are looking for surgery on the gastric bypass - you should be looking up info for the roux en y - that is the traditional gastric bypass that most doctors speak up. The mgb is a different operation altogether.

If you want to stay in Canada to have surgery, you have 2 possible options. The doctors in Toronto do both roux en y and vertical sleeve gastrectomy. You can see the website misgroup.ca for more information.

if you can afford travel expenses, you can have surgery done in the States and it will be done much faster and by a bariatric specialist rather than a general surgeon.  You can choose from these operations: roux en y, vertical sleeve, duodenal switch and mini gastric bypass.  If your bmi is over 51, give the DS some consideration.

I suggest coming over to the Ontario board too.

Hi,

There about nine different weight loss surgeries.  If you look at the links on the left, you will see a link called "Surgery Types".  If you want detail, go to http://clos.net and read read read.  There is no regular gastric bypass.
