In a nutshell, mini gastric bypass uses the loop reconstruction that has been suggested as an alternative to the Roux en-Y procedure, due to the simplicity of its construction, which reduced the challenge of laparoscopic surgery. Also, the surgery takes lesser time and could heal faster compared to other weigh loss surgery.

Hi,
It is a hard thing to make a huge decision like this. I would suggest you learn as much as you can from other postops in both areas. Read as much as you can about the success rates, long term risks etc. Sure, every successful postop will tell you theirs is the best so that is why learning as much as you can is important. If you are available on Tuesday mornings or evening, Dr Rutledge holds his clinic and answers most all the questions that are just like yours. He has a webcam and you can watch and hear the clinic as well as type any questions you have. Here is the link.

Hi the more I look at the surgeries, the more I don't know which one would work best for me.
I know I am on the MGB forum, but was hoping some of you that have been on OH awhile can tell me the difference and what works best for what type person .
Not sure if this will make a difference in my decision, but I will have to go to Mexico, as my insurance covers NO WEIGHT LOSS SURGERIES.
On looking at the difference between the VSG and MGB, should I take into consideration, like say, I am crazy over sweets? Have no self-control? Age? Weight?
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I am a female, 37 years old and my doctor suggested I get weight loss surgery. I saw the special on Discovery Channel about the mini procedure. Besides being overweight, I am in pretty good health. The reason I am overweight is the PCOS i have. It went untreated/undiagnosed for 15+ yrs, and now no matter what diet I go on my body just doesnt care. Anyhow, I am looking for a good doctor in the Philadelphia area that I can start speaking to about this procedure. I would like to bite the bullet and do something about this by the end of the year.
