Topic: RE: Your reason for MGB instead of VSG????
I chose the MGB because of it's success rate, it can be revised and reversed if necessary. The surgery takes only 30 minutes or so and recovery is quick. There isn't a whole lot that I don't like about it. I am nine years post-op and I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Topic: Anyone been to Dr Hargroder in Missouri?
My dream would be to get the MGB in Florida or Vegas but I think realistically it would be better closer to home. Dr Hargroder is about 2 hours drive for me. I am wondering about his reputaion and if anyone here has had the procedure done by him?
Thanks!
Oh and I am new here. I am Jo, living near St Louis. Wanting MGB very much and just beginning my journey to find a way!
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Any Suggestions for the Pre-Op Diet???
Well, I would recommend eating healthy. Dr. Rutledge is one to say eating healthy is the key. Portion control. If you have to, get kids plates and utinsels and use them. Eat slowly and enjoy each bite. It's texture, taste, feel, smell. Don't read or watch TV while you eat. This will distract you and you may eat more than you should. Also, protein will keep you full longer. Water based foods are good but will not keep you full as long. If you can, get in a good support group now before surgery. Start working on the issues that brought you to this place. This is alot, but even though I am nine years out, I still need support.
Congrats!!!!

Topic: RE: Why mini gastric bypass over RNY?
Hi
Basically the connections are different and the reconnection site is different. In the MGB, you don't need the "Y" connection. Also in the MGB, about seven feet of the small intestines is bypassed. In the RNY, I think about 13 inches is bypassed. The MGB's basic claim to fame is its revisability and reversability. Plus with that much of a bypass, weight loss is good. Keep in mind everyone is different and everyone loses at a differernt rate.
There has been only a few issues with reflux with the MGB. Mostly it is due to what is eaten and bad food choices. I think both share that side affect.
I think yes, they both can be done at the same time. You would have to check with your surgeon. A good website to learn more is http://clos.net.

Topic: RE: need urgent honest opinion
Good Morning Tom,
Not to late at all, because of the lack of response from members on the group, it seemed that long term results were not forthcoming. I am a lap-band looking for a conversion. As much as I am sure I am going to receive complaints for saying this it seems that the SLEEVE is one of the better processes. Not only can the process be banded at a later stage but you could also undergo a full bypass.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I gained back all my weight with the band (self - sabotage), good luck with your journey
