Topic: Gluten Sensitivity after Weight Loss Surgery Survey
Gastro-intestinal Symptoms
https://www.surveymonkey.com/ s/GISymptoms
Hello
We have recently seen several patients that have gastrointestinal symptoms following weight loss surgery that might be caused by Insensitivity to gluten a protein found in wheat, barley and rye foods.
Survey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/ s/GISymptoms
We have created a survey to investigate the problems of gastrointestinal symptoms following surgery and to try to determine if Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance) might occur after weight loss surgery and give some help and guidance to those patients who suffer from symptoms like the following symptoms:
GERD (Reflux), Abd bloating/pain, Diarrhea/constipation, Nausea/Vomiting, Iron-deficiency anemia, Fatigue, Bone/joint pain, Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Depression/anxiety, Tingling/numbness, Seizures, Missed menstrual periods
Infertility/miscarriage, Canker sores, Skin rashes
Please take a few moments out of your busy day to help us understand more about this disease in weight loss surgery patients
We might be able to help you or someone else.

Topic: RE: What about Complications Insurance for SelfPay
Hi,
No these are support letters. Dr. Rutledge wants to be assured that your family is supportive of you having this surgery and will be part of your after care support. He wants to make sure you have a family doctor who is willing to treat your after care as well. All these letters are for your needs to be met in respect to support.
Dr. Rutledge insists that you fight for the right to be covered by your insurance company. Appeal as often as it takes. All the important studies show that this is a viable surgery but insurance companies are always difficult. It urks me that they are making huge profits at our expense. Nasty boogers at times.

Topic: What about Complications Insurance for SelfPay
I was reading through all the 12 steps to getting the surgery and one is to have a family member co-sign. I assume that is for financial responsibility should something happen. Are there Surgical Complications Insurance providers should a person not have a family member willing to co-sign for their surgery?
Considering that things can go very very wrong with any surgery. Even the unlikely cases of needing life long care. Which is a finanical risk I couldn't place on any of my family. There are Insurance providers who cover surgical complications specific to a selfpay situations for most surgeries. If MGB isn't covered by these insurers is there a reason why? And if you have a list of such insurers that would be most helpful as well.

Topic: RE: For those *****fer to the www.clos.net/ site to get referrals of Mexican docs
I think you really dumb your answer. You totally missed my point. Many docs devise new surgical techniques all over the world and it's not proprietary or copyrighted. Yes, Dr ruthlege came up with this technique (which was based an existing surgical technique that he merely tweaked) and it appears his marketing people (you included) seem to think he's the only source to figure this out. I honestly don't believe a doctor MUST see him in order to do the technique right if he is an established bariatic doc have done regular gastric bypass.
If I walked up to an artist who is very accomplished and specializes in landscapes, has a degree from a good art school, but I commissioned him to paint my dog, you think he couldn't do it? hardly.

Well, I look at it this way. I wouldn't want a VW mechanic to work on my BMW (if I had one). If you want the expert to do it then go to the ones he trains.
Topic: For those *****fer to the www.clos.net/ site to get referrals of Mexican docs
I'm not sure why people are referring to that site to find mexican docs to do mini gastric bypass but when I did "Flo" just basically said this.
'Yikes, I sure don't know of any. I answer a lot of calls from people who
had surgery down there and are sick and can't find anyone in the U.S. to
treat them. Think long and hard before you spend your money that way. It's
tempting and if you do well, fine. But many people don't do well and they
have to make multiple trips to Mexico while very sick.'
Now think about it. Lots of people had MGB in mexico and had no problem and you have a doc who developed this procedure and is sure acting very proprietary about it. You think there is a financial incentive to get people to go to him or his afflilliates? The answer is yes.
I am not denying he is a good doc and so many people have been helped by him but honestly it irks me how prossessive he is of the procedure. My guess is competent docs can figure what he is doing without him being involved. As someone said it's just a slightly different approved then a procedure that was done like it before. There are plenty of competent Mexican docs out there. I had a lap band by one. The lap band itself hasn't worked for me ( It has not deminshed my constant appetite) but his surgery skills and how I was taken care of was excellent. Anyway I just had to put it out there. Most of us do not have 14K and upwards in our piggy bank to spend for this and insurance companies consider the MGB to be "experimental" so what is there to do but go to a cheaper place.
