My husband has decided to have Gastric By-Pass Surgery.  He had the Lap Band Surgery about 2 yrs ago,  He lost more weight pre surgery than he did post surgery.  He probably gained 10 out of 20 lbs back that he lost pre surgery, and hasn't lost any weight since the lap band surgery.  He claims the Lap Band didn't work for him,but he also didn't follow the guidelines suggested.  If he doesn't do what he is supposed to do (like cut his food small or chew good) he throws up (and it hurts me to here this).  I was not thrilled about the lap-band surgery, but as a wife that loves her husband, I would do anything to help him, but I can't change him!!  I  need to reach out to wives whose husband's have had this life changing surgery, especially ones who have been with their husband's at least one year post surgery.  I want to support my husband and even conform to eating what he has to eat.  We've been married over 30 yrs and I know his habits.  Please help me to understand as a spouse, what to expect.  I am a very supportive wife, but he has a mind of his  own.  PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND!!

Hi,

I thought I had responded to this before.  Didn't you get it?

Yes I did and thanks for responding-you were the only one *****sponded and I was hoping to hear from some more people.  Its unfortunate for me that the bariatric surgery place that my husband is attending doesn't offer spousal support classes to inform us on what to expect-I did attend some classes when he was preparing for lapband and very informative-but everyone there is either post surgery as a speaker or pre surgery.  I didn't want to ask questions and bum out potential patients.  I want to hear from spouses who spouse is post op.  Even though he is physically, mentally and emotionally going through this, I also will be going through this mentally and emotionally.  I am all about helping him through this, but I don't know what to expect this time.  He went into the lapband surgery knowing that it could be removed-this surgery is different.

If you want, you can contact my husband.  He can give you his impressions.  Sometimes email addresses don't come through here for some reason so PM me and I will give you his email address.  He can give you his experience.  Also you may want to post this to the main message board.  Many more members on that one.  Also look through all the groups.  You may find the support group you need in OH.  You can always start your own group on here and others in similar situations can join it.  That's kind of what I had to do in PA.  There was no support group so I started my own.

Gastric bypass surgery is a procedure which will divide your stomach into small parts and handle the food you eat.

this operation is to get rid of obesity, hypertension and diabetes.

Surgeon will help you with proper guidance and don't forget to mention all the medications and problems you had faced earlier when you had surgery.
