MGB Scheduled for 12/13/12...only 5 weeks to go!!!!
Okay, this is my first time to post to the site, and am just looking for a little support/insight. Not sure if this is the right place for me or not. So far I have only met with lots of negativity/criticism. I am 34, 5'2 and 190lbs with a BMI of 35. I know this is low compared to many others who have had the MGB, but hope that those *****spond will not be negative. The only support I have is my husband. I am having my surgery done in Mexico, and am going alone. My friends and family don't have a clue about any of this. I don't want to talk to them about it, because at this point I need to focus on the positive. So, if there is anyone out there who has a similar story I would LOVE to have a little support! - Thanks!
Hello!
The reason most people criticize and are negative is due to lack of knowledge. They don't want to take the time to do the research themselves so they base their opinions on the opinions of others who have not done the research. Sorry about that.
I know of a few folks who have had their surgery in Mexico and is that because it's cheaper? Have you spoken to Dr. Rutledge about this surgeon? Please talk to him first. He is the expert in his field and would know best.
My BMI was borderline when I had the surgery also but I would do it again in a heartbeat. Keep me posted on how it goes and if I can help in any way. Where are you from?
Yes, the surgery in Mexico will only cost $6500, plus they do not make you jump through so many hoops. I have read Dr. Rutledges manual, and honestly it is overwhelming the amount of info he wants from the patient. I appreciate that he is just trying to emphasize the severity of this surgery, but it is a little too much in my opinion. So, I have taken what I learned from his manual, and am using it with my own surgeon.
I am from KC, MO. I will fly to San Diego and will be driven to Tijuana (apx 15 miles) by the group I am using. Flights there were very cheap, so I am still way under half price by going to MX. I could have never afforded to use Dr. Rutledge, or any doc in the US.
Hi,
Yes the manual has grown tremendously since I had surgery 12 years ago. I am someone who needs new input. I take classes all the time so having any new knowledge is a high for me.
I hope you have a really good follow up doctor in KC. I think this is where the medical community fails us. They are not knowledgeable enough in this area to really do good follow up. I know it is improving but still....
Support groups are extremely valuable. Have you found one yet? This is something I always strive to find and provide. I go to one in Warrenton, VA and I am also trying to start one here in Culpeper.
Well, I think I have asked enough questions for now lol. If I can help in any way, let me know.
