Had the surgery on Wednesday, and today was my first full day at home.. I know I am supposed to drink as much as 64oz of water (min) but I also know that is not likely to happen within the first few days... I have had approx. 40oz of water today, but I still have the cotton mouth feeling of still feeling thirsty. Please advise on what else I can do.
Hello, it's hard to try to stay hydrated. I had my surgery 07/27/2012 and I had to learn the hard way which lead to my being sent to the ER for an IV and IVF. Something else that helped me with the cotton mouth was sugarfree hard candy. Check with your surgeon and see if that is an option for you. Stay positive :)

Right after my surgery, I relied on sugar free Popsicles to help get my fluids in. I have had two dehydration episodes since my surgery. Both times I had spent a lot of time outside (during the summer) and evidently did not replenish enough, because the next day I fainted on both occasions. Please remember in the heat to replenish your fluids. I always carry water and snack packs of some kind. You can do this. You just have to be conscientious.
