hello everyone my name is Clint with a BMI of 41
Im planning on having one of the following 2 surgeries in the next 2 months:
1) mini gastric bypass
2) gastric bypass with fobi pouch (silastic band)
im unsure as to which one to go through with, the main factor i want is excess weight loss and to eliminate weight gain requiring revision surgery. From the studys i can see its very close on paper with gastic bypass having between 50-85 % weight loss while the mini gastric bypass shows 50-80%. some comparison studies show the mini bypass to be superior while others results show gastric bypass to be more superior.
From what i have heard the gastric bypass with fobi pouch is suspose to eliminate weight gain via preventing the stoma from stretching and less chance of staple line breakdown.
Could you please shed some light on which of the two surgeries you would sugest is the better option by way of excess weight loss and minimal weight gain, thankyou.

Hello,
I think it is great you are doing research on which method is best for you. However, both are just tools to losing weight. It would be nice if there was a total cure but the surgery doesn't FIX our mind and thoughts and habits. Regardless of which procedure we pick, it will involve a total life style change. Yes, they will help a lot in losing the weight but keeping it off is mostly up to us. WE have to learn to eat right. WE have to find an exercise plan that is fun and keep us active. WE have to find out what our triggers are and get some help identifying them, and replacing them with good habits.
So, while you are deciding on which procedure is best, also get your support system in place. Doctor, family, support group. If you need to, a nutritionist, and a counselor who specializes in eating addictions and disorders.
As for me, I would do the MGB again in a heart beat. It was the best choice I ever made and I am on my 13 year out.
