Heartburn

Hi guys,
I had my MGB about 2 years ago and all is real well but I still suffer from heartburn. The worst part is waking up now and then in the middle of the night with the burning chest pain and the pinching pain in my right arm. It feels like your having a stroke and your trying to catch your breath for air! I try to consume non acid producing foods in the evening and keep the anti-acid pills next to my bed so I can pop one or two incase I feel the acid surge....

I take prevacid every night before I go to sleep.  However, you may want to ask your doctor what he/she recommends.  This needs to be addressed because the acid will do harm to your throat.

Thanks SJ I do Tums before bed but at times I forget and its touch an go. I was just concerned that the Acid does damage to the stomach but what exactly does it do to the throat?
I snack a lot in the evening so I try as best as possible to stick with veggies and some fruits like Bananas to manage the Acid not sure what others do,

Regards,
Napoli

Hi,

Tums may not be strong enough.  It is a good source of calcium though.  Do some research on the veggies and fruits you eat.  Some can cause gas.  Acid reflux erodes the soft tissues in the throat so you want to try to keep that under control.

Hi SJ, I took your advice and spoke to my local witch doctor, he said the best thing is to elevate the back end of the bed by a couple inches and that should address the waking up in the middle of the night problems….also stick some chicken feathers in my ears.... well maybe not.... He also mentioned to snack on vegies such as carrots and fruits such as water melon in the evening as well as good old yogurt. I got my trusty old hand saw out and to the chagrin of the mrs I built a little wood step below the beds back post. Slept well so will give it a try for a while and see what happens!
Thanks again for the advice,

Hi a quick update on progress of heartburn, Elevating the bed has worked well and no more midnight heartburn attacks in bed! Also I have discovered that a drop of apple vinegar has at least for me done better than medicines. It goes down a bit harsh but it almost instantly make me feel better. Just wanted to share this with other MGB’ers out there who may have had similar heartburn issues.
