Mini GBS in Costa Rica
Has anyone had surgery with Dr Carlos Quesada in CR? If so, can you tell me more about your experience? I am having a hard time fidning much information about him or other patients who had him for mini GBS, but his references are excellent and he's board certified in the US. However, I want to make a good decision.
Thanks! Christina

I just had my surgery with Dr. Carlos Quesada, in Costa Rica. He is a super nice man and a perfectionist in his surgerys. I found him on line at the Healthy Escapes Website He made every effort to make sure i was comfortable with the procedure and why he chose to do the Mini Bypass for me,, over the Lap band that i had originally wanted.. I have asthma and he was also very concerned that i see a lung specialist befor my surgery, to make sure i was at the tip top of my current health. Befor he did any surgerys..
I found the whole experience very comforting and i felt in good hands for the whole time.. In my recovery i am still in constant contact with him and his staff. i have an appointment on Wed. to have my drainage tube taken out..
My husband and i planned on an extended stay, so we do not go home untill Aug 24... to make sure all is good, and i am in good traveling condition. I would highly recoment the extended stay as i sure would not want to be traveling in my recovery stage..
I am still recovering, as my surgery was on Aug 11, 2011 .... So i have no comment on the out come. I do know all the staff we encountered were very professional and most of them spoke english.. The CIMA hospital, where my surgery was preformed, was a wonderful modern place. The room was like a hotel room, my husband was able to stay right in my room with me..
If you have any other questions please message me..

I had my surgery with Dr. Q in April 2011 following my aunt, uncle, sister in law and cousin. He was very thorough and the hospital care was great. He did however misdiagnose my post operative bout of high blood pressure. Turns out I was VERY dehydrated which was diagnosed by my GP the day I got home. It's something he should have known right away instead of trying to have me take a pill (which I refused). But other than that little incident- I'm now 103lbs lighter and feeling great :0)
Would you please tell me the cost of your surgery? I am in the process of building a home in Costa Rica and will be travelling there every other month, or so. What was the process like? Did you do all the prelimenaries over the phone or was an office appointment necessary? I had a lapband removed because of erosion almost 2 years ago and am gradually gaining all my weight back. I like the fact that this procedure is reversible. Thank you for any informataion.
Hi: I had my MGB 6 years ago--doing super... The cost was 17 grand out of pocket. I lived about 3 hours from where I had my surgery so I did my paperwork and submitted it via the internet and mail.... As far as having and getting the Psyc Eval, I had that done locally--and of course you have to have a letter from your family doctor who states that he/she will do follow up yearly lab work on your..
Having a reversable surgery is what drew me to having the MGB along with thei super low mortality and morbidity rate.. To me, those were the most important things. I saw a tv program called BIG MEDICINE in which father and son obesity doctors (Davis is their last name) out of Houston TX Methodist Hosp had to remove one of those aweful lapbands.. and the lap band had adhered to the lining of the stomach. They were both super worried that it might rupture the stomach with it's removal--I don't mind telling you they had some tense moments... Why these horrific things are put on the market and doctors install them, I will never know..!!
