mgb patient in need of revision?
Please note that I am a duodenal switch (DS) patient. I am asking this question for a friend of mine who is in need of a revision.
I have a friend who is about 2.5 years post op mgb. Her wl is good, but she is malabsorbing too much. She was given a 7 foot bypass and is considering going back to Dr. Rutledge to get her bypassed limb lengthened.
I have known 2 others who had revision for this problem after mgb. One was revised to the DS, the other to the sleeve. Both have done very well. If any of you are familiar with this situation, I would like to know if anyone knows of any mgb patient did well after having Dr. Rutledge do a revision for problems of too much malabsorbtion, or have you seen beter success with revising to the DS and sleeve.
Thanks

Hi,
This is a very powerful surgery and it would be nice to know how a person's body will react after surgery. I'm sorry she is having these issues. Why would she want more bypassed? Or are you saying she wants the bypass shortened? I am 11 years out and I am doing great. So you never know which catagory you will fall into. There is an MGB yahoo group where you can talk to many folks about different issues. Some you will find didn't have enough bypassed, others too much and some who has similar issues as your friend. No one surgery works for everyone. I wish her the best.

Yes. I meant shortened. I said the opposite of what I meant.
Especially with any surgery with malabsorbtion like mgb and the ds, you can't predict how our bodies will react to it. I'm hoping to hear from someone who did well after having a revision with Dr. Rutledge. It would be much nicer than having to be revised to another surgery.
I will tell her to look up the yahoo group to get advice.
Thanks.
