Hey everyone...I haunted this site about four and a half years ago when my husband had a VSG. I felt then like I knew most everything there was to know about VSG and RNY. I was planning to have the same surgery, but our finances took a dive and that didn't happen. Now, I've head about the Mini Gastric Bypass, and would like to know what everyone who's had one thinks about it, good and bad. I read that if you've had previous abdominal surgeries that it can't be done. I've had two c-sections, gallbladder removal, and a hysterectomy. I'm 5'9", 285 and am mostly healthy, no major co-morbidities.
Names of surgeons, and approximate costs would be helpful, too....thanks to everyone who can help! I did check for a faq page for this specific surgery type, but wasn't successful.
Thank you everybody!

Hi,

The best thing to do is join their email list and you can talk to many folks who have had this surgery.  Also he posts video testimonies of folks who have had it on the website http://clos.net.  As for me, I would do it a zillion more times.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It is an extremely powerful surgery.  As you know, all surgeries have risks.  As far as having had other surgeries, I haven't heard that this was an issue.  However, since I am not a doctor, you will have to talk to him about your situation.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for the info!  I just ordered his info, and will look forward to reading some more details about it.
Before you chose this surgery, had you considered other types of surgery?  Why was this one the one for you?  If you dont mind me asking for personal info....?

Thanks,
Kim

Hi,

Yes I did think about other surgeries.  The MGB surgery itself is short, average 35 minutes, laproscopic, revisable and reversable.  Also, the steps you had to go through to be approved was so extensive that I knew when surgery was set, I knew exactly what I was getting into.  The preparation process was very time consuming but well worth it.

I had a Memphis Gastric Bypass, by Dr Cowan 16 years ago.
It involved major absominal surgery and since I had 10  surgeries in one, took  four hours.
Mine has a pouching, with bands above and below pouch  a complete gastric resection. It works... It was alll available to me then  and I believe it has saved my life. It definitely gave me the ability to do things I had never attempted before.
      My advise!
.   Remember  that YOU ARE WORTH the effort to make these changes...and whatever it costs.
(  I was 5'4 1/2, and 292 1/2..17 years ago. I lost about 30 lbs, with the help of a nutritionist, high protein powder and lots of water and string beans over 3 months.before surgery,. My surgery  just 16 yrs and 3 months ago.)
Make sure to get your vitamins in, with a multi...so you can keep those carbs down.
B suppliments also help the carb cravings and they should be a sublingual  to absorb properly.  Make sure your vitamin D and calcium levels are up to normal before you begin this journey.
Build on the  knowledge you gianed from assisting your husband, it really does help, ..My mom had surgery 6 months before I did...and that really helped me..Denise

Amen! We are worth it!  Dr. Rutledge recommends healthy eating.  No special diets or pills.  Just learn to eat healthy.

I was going to go with Dr R but wasnt able to front the costs to go to the US, so I had my MGB done my someone he trained in Belgium adn it cost me 8100 dollars. I had no problems whatsoever, it was a quick and painless recovery and I have lost so much weight in just 5 weeks. I would do it over and over and over again. Dr R is the absolute best, but I was comfortable with Belgium because it is 2nd in the world for healthcare....Netherlands being number 1 (where I live)
I researched every single surgery type for 7 months...daily and this was the right one for me. email if you have any other questions  I can help you with!
