MGB vs RNY Bypass

I am a failed bandster and recently went to Mexico for surgery to have the "Gold Standard" weight loss surgery the Rouen Y Bypass. Upon reviewing my medical reports I discovered a Laproscopic Mini Gastric Bypass was done. Due to my failed past attempts with the band I am petrified that the MGB will not give me the results I so desperately seek. Has anyone had the MGB and what kind of success rate have you had. I would appreciate any input. Thank you

Hi there,

I am ten years out with the MGB and would do it again in a heart beat.  This is a very powerful surgery.  Dr. Rutledge has an online clinic on UStream every Tuesday at 12 noon eastern time.  You can listen, watch  and learn a lot about the MGB.  He also has many things on Twitter and YouTube.  So you can learn a lot about it.  With any surgery, there are risks. I don't care if it is toe surgery, there are risks.  So, keep that in mind.

With ANY of the weight loss surgeries, they are only tools to a healthier you.  However, these surgeries are not the cure.  Meaning, dealing with the issues that brought us to the point of being obese.  Whether it's a childhood trauma, a bad relationship, a long illness or something more recent.  We need to face our demons so to speak.  We have to go through a whole body healing for any wls to be a success.

I hope this helps.

I had a MGB on 3/6/10 in Mexico. I have lost 38 pounds. There is a lot of good info out there about MGB and its success. You also have less of a nutrient loss with MGB. Work with it and it will work for you.

With the average 6' bypass, nutrition is a big thing.  Well, with most weight loss surgeries, it is to some extent.  We need to understand that the increase in supplements is important across the board.  Absorption of calories is affected in most of the procedures thus affecting nutrition.  I just want to make sure this is understood. I don't understand why they would tell you nutrition isn't an issue.

I had Dr. Rutledge do my MGB.  I chose it because it would be easy to undo in case I got cancer (which runs in my family) so I could get good absorption again  He botched my surgery so bad, I think he mistook me for someone else. He bypassed WAY too much for what I needed to lose. I had to get another surgeon to undo the surgery and turn in into a gastric sleeve, and I am very happy with that now. I have maintained my weight at 125 for 2 years now.  I was dying at 92 lbs while eating 4,500 calories a day, which is very hard with an MGB.  After my revision, I just eat smaller portions, but I don't have the gastric distress of gas, and diarrhea that I had before.  I love my sleeve and thank the Lord I found someone to make my intestines work properly without having to bathroom map every outing.
