I have Aetna HMO insurance. My plan doesn't cover bariatrics, but I was wondering if anyone out there was able to get there's approved, and if so how did you go about doing it. Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi,

Well, sometimes you need to fight for what you want.  Where are you having the surgery?  Possibly your surgeon can write a letter to your insurance company explaining the need and the health risks if you don't have the surgery.  It is a battle but many folks have won.  It will take a lot of determination to get approved.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.

The book "Weight loss surgery for dummies" , available at Amazon, has som practical info on this and some examples of letters you could send to your insurance.

Me, I live in the Netherlands/Belgium and I am paying the surgery myself, because I didn't want to deal with insurance companies. But prices are much lower here, so I'll pay only 6000 eruos (about 7000 usd) all in.
