230lbs and 5'8". Considering MGB. Need feedback pls!

I want to know if anyone out there with my stats has had the MGB? What was surgery like for you? Who was your doctor and how much did it cost? How much weight have you lost and in how long? Thanks.

I come close to fitting your stats.    I had surgery 3 months ago.  Starting weight was 210 @ 5'5"    My surgeon is Dr Rutledge in Las Vegas.  Heck, he operated on another patient that weighed l80 lbs.  He bypassed 5 feet on me.   Weight loss has been very slow for me.   I keep reading everyone else's weight loss and I am the only one who has lost only  20 lbs  at 3 months out.  Major Bumer.  I had a slight complication after surgery.  I had excessive swelling at the reconnection.  Had to stay in the hospital for a week.  Doctor took good care of me.  Just one of those things.     Cost:   $17,000     I used my equity line of credit of pay for surgery.   

Thank you so much for your reply. Thats exactly what I fear. Paying a lot of money and not losing as much weight as I want because I'm starting out at a 35 BMI. Most people Ive seen who lost so much weight started out in the 40s. I really dont know what to do. I thought the MGB would give me a faster weight loss than the lapband. So sorry to hear about your complication. How much extra did you have to pay? I plan to do the same day MGB so I can have a little money left to pay for (God forbid) any complications.

If I were you, I wouldn't base your decision one or two or three people's story.  Join the pre-op email list on clos.net and meet all you can.  Let them share their stories with you.  Then, make your decision.  There are  many many hundreds of success stories out there.
