That is a lie so please check your references carefully before believing gossip.  Ask Dr. Rutledge yourself and he will tell you the COMPLETE truth.

Dr. Rutledge has been sued many times in NC. If you go to the state cite to check his license, there is a wealth of information. There was also an expose about the mini-gastric bypass that hit several different newspapers and news stations here and also involved another doctor that was doing them who has now changed his name and moved to Michigan. I wouldn't let the man touch me with a 10 foot pole.

As you can see, he has a public file with the North Carolina State Medical Board (all public information):

http://www.ncmedboard.org/Clients/NCBOM/Public/Licensee_Details.aspx?&EntityID=26088&PublicFile=1

He also made at least one omission on his original Nevada request for license (also public information):

http://medboard.nv.gov/Meeting%20Minutes/September%204-5,%202003.pdf

In the future, it might be a good idea to really research any bariatric surgeon you are considering, and include in that research states they used to practice in. He's well-known here in North Carolina. If you click on his public file, you can read all about it.

And for those of you that want to scream "slander," this is all a matter of public record.

What slander. Did you read the information you posted? From what I gather NC med board had allegations from 7 patients, they investigated and found nothing so they investigated some more and found nothing and then they decided that they were going to hold him answering a question wrong on an application to another state to be licensed, against him, and the question was "had he been investigated in another state"...LOL...I tell you what that bespeaks of is a couple of  Dr's and such that didnt much like Dr.R and his new practice. I'm a dental hygienist and I know those boards are made up of usually doctors nurses people in the field, although its a bit different from state to state I assume its about the same there in NC. Maybe they didnt like the new surgery, or maybe he wasnt very likeable. But all of those allegations and legal maneuvering seemed kinda baseless, and what allegations were against him originally were all investigated and found to be w/o cause. I'm just stating the info that you posted. I dont know how that says he's a bad doctor or the surgery is bad or not. If they had found something that would be useful.

Dr. Rutledge is such a caring doctor that, after he had done my friend's surgery and she lost way too much weight and was in desperate need of revision surgery, he wouldn't even forward her medical records to the next surgeon!  I would advise you all to steer clear of this man.  I'll bet dollars to donuts those called upon in the audience had been planted there.  He has been sued many times.  Don't let it be you who needs to sue him next. Unfortunately, it happens that people can lose too much weight and can become severely malnourished.  From my experience with the MGB since I had the surgery two and a half months ago, part of the contract agreement was that anyone who was having the MGB could not see another surgery for revision.  Your friend was well aware of that and signed a contract that she would not see another surgeon.  Dr. Rutledge and CLOS does not want to be responsible for another doctor possibly screwing up a revision.

I believe Dr. Rutledge would not see her.  She got another doctor to save her life, and that is exactly what he did.  She will be okay now, but had to endure a few months of tube feeding to get her weight and nutrition back up.

Hi Linda(great name by the way...wink, wink),

I am so sorry to hear about your friend.  Unfortunately, it does happen when some people have continued to lose too much weight..  I don't understand why Dr. Rutledge would not see her.  That is so unusual since the support is there from both him, and his staff and Dr. Peralgie(did my surgery) and his staff who are there pre and post op.  They are so committed to their patients are so adamate about letting them know if any problem should arise pre op.  Our success is their success.  Part of the contract pre op to have the MGB was to sign in agreement that if patients did not follow through on their post op follow u*****t follow through on what was recommended for their optimum health that Dr. Rutledge would possiblly discharge whomever as a patient.   I do not know  the cir****tances around your friend's situation post op with Dr. Rutledge and his staff.   That is sure scary what happened to her friend and what she has been through.   Thank God she will be okay.

hi Linda,

I just re read your betting 'dollars and nuts those called upon in the audience had been planted there."  I am not planted here and i am familiar with other Mgbers that have posted here and they are also not planted here.  There is not reason to plant people here.  People come here, including myself and talk about their experiences with the MGB and post op.  There ae also people looking for information.  The only place where I have come across any negativity is on this site.  There are thousands and thousands of people who post on the MGB site and also Dr. Peralgie's site with  their positive experiences as well as supporting those pre op and post op.  I know for me, I sure did alot of research on the web site to help me determine to have the MGB and I am so happy I did.  I have met so many others who have only experienced success.  I do understand as with any surgery, there can be complications.  I was confident going in to surgery that I was in the best of hands.
