The CLOS MGB is quite successful.  If you have other data, please forward to me.  I would really like to see it.  tyvm

Not going to get "mad" but if you have no data to backup your proposition you just sound ignorant. Why not tell us more about the VSG, how many years it has been performed and all the imperical data?

Hi. I am not here to tell anyone which surgery to have or not to have.  It is a very personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves.  I just hope that everyone that is considering having some form of weightloss surgery, does  A LOT of research before making a decision on which to go with.

There is not one surgery that is right for everyone.  You must do enough research so that you are 100% comfortable with the surgery you have choosen & you must have 100% confidence in your surgeon. I had lap RNY on July 6, 2004 & I am 100% satisfied with every aspect.  I love my surgeon & his program & I am satisfied with the results of my surgery.  I am also 100% sure that I made the best decision for ME.  I did look into the mini gastric bypass before looking into the RNY.  I attended a seminar by Dr. Rutledge in Greensboro, NC, when he was still here in NC.  I will admit that I was impressed with everything that I saw & heard.  Fortunately for me, a lady that I knew was there & a couple of weeks after the seminar I saw her at a seminar for RNY.  She is a doctor & she informed me that Dr. Rutledge was NOT medical board certified in the state of North Carolina.  That was something that was NEVER mentioned in his seminar nor in any of the information that I was given.  My mother is a nurse, so I grew up around the medical profession.  For me personally, I don't care what other information that anyone could provide about Dr. Rutledge, I would never let him touch me.  You could provide me with good and/or bad information about Dr. Rutledge and it wouldn't matter.  I will never let any doctor that can't get certified by the medical board touch me.  That fact & that fact alone is why I choose not to use Dr. Rutledge or to use anyone that he had trained to do that surgery. You have to look at all the facts & I am so glad that I had someone to show me all the facts before I made my decision.  It is my understanding that Dr. Rutledge is the doctor that came up with this procedure.  I know that it has worked for many people, but just like with the other forms of weightloss surgeries, it hasn't worked for everyone that has had. Again, I am not here to say don't do it.  I am just here offering some information that I found when I first looked into weightloss surgery.  Just as I wouldn't have known some of this had I not spoken with another doctor, someone on here might not know some of this either. But please, don't make your decision to choose or not choose the mini gastric bypass based on what I or anyone else has said here.  Please do your own research & make your decision based on the facts that YOU find for yourself. Good luck to everyone here & I hope that I haven't upset anyone with my posting. Julie 248/140

I think the physician was misinformed. First of all, Dr. Rutledge is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery... as well as in the specialty of surgical critical care.  You can check out any physician at abms.org (it's free too!) http://www.abms.org/searchdetail.asp?key=113996 In general, for most board specialties (I can't think of an exception), one must hold a valid medical license in at least one State before one can even sit for the board exam.  Today, that would mean that the physician has passed all three steps of his USMLEs.  They also need to have completed an approved residency in the specialty. Secondly, he would not have operating priviledges at any hospital in North Carolina had he not had a North Carolina Medical License Period.  No hospital would have granted him priviledges.  They allow residents and interns to practice under Attending physicians, but no doctors are allowed to do this after they complete their residencies. (Sometimes exceptions are made for fellowships, but usually fellows have to be licensed too.) Dr. Rutledge was licensed in North Carolina, although now his license is inactive.  Once again, you can look up any physician to check their licensure status by going to the state medical board's website. http://www.ncmedboard.org/Clients/NCBOM/Public/Licensee_Deta ils.aspx?&EntityID=26088&PublicFile=1 On that page, you can actually read info about the medical board investigating Dr. Rutledge due to a complaint back in 2001, and the board did not find him at fault.  He was reprimanded, though, for not revealing that investigation to the Nevada board when he applied for licensure there.   You were misinformed.  He is both licensed and board certified.

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

That study looks pretty good. 1%! Not bad at all. I bet that is better then the RNY and LapBand. In fact this makes me more excited to have my MGB!

Question about that link about MGB revisions...how do we know how many total MGBers are out there vs. how many needed revisions? If there are 3000 patients, and 30 had trouble (obviously rounding here) that's 1% -- and I wouldn't call that "a lot" of people. How many RNY patients need a revision? Just trying to get a balanced look at both. I don't have either surgery, but I want to be informed!

Dr R at CLOS regularly publishes figures on his board and updates the patient manual whenever there is new data or new milestones. I found them to be very honest about difficult questions, the guy gives his email and cell phone as does Dr P in Florida. One of the honest things DrR says in his You tube videos is that there is no perfect procedure and the fact that surgeons argue about procedures shows that the vesy best procedure may not have been designed yet.
