Topic: MTF covers Lapband in CA - need help
Hi - I am new to this board and I have recently found out that Tricare does not cover the lapband with civilian doctors. Does anyone know if there is a MTF in CA that does cover the surgery? Thanks in advance for your replies. Retired Navy Wife

I can't believe that we have so few Drs that take tricare. You'd think they would want to contribute their part for the country. they all go around saying "We support our troops," Ya, like how. Maybe people in general just don't know that their are ways to support our troops. Well, thats all I've got to say about that. I hope you can get things worked out. My Dr has been very good to work things out. He has had a lot of patients that come from out of town. I hope you can get that consult really soon. Take care Diana

That is Great!!!!! I recommend getting your sleep study out of the way. (If you can...I don't know if you need to go to see your PCM again or not...Tricare sent me a referral for a sleep study a week after they approved me to see a WLS surgeon. I don't know if this is an appointment that they require you to have at the Dr. you will be going to...but if it is go ahead and get it over with. I found out I have moderate obstructive sleep apnea. I am suppose to be getting a cpap machine to use at home in a few days. Congrats again on beginning your journey!!! Jaye Jaye

I haven't had the surgery yet myself; but what Jennifer said is right on the money. I don't think anybody that has had the surgery didn't get scared especially right before the surgery!!! I know that when I am where you are at in the process I will feel extreme anxiety as you are now, and I will be asking for prayer and help on the board!!! Have faith, and think of your life to come. You are going to have more energy and be able to do all the things that seem impossible now!! My prayers are with you!! (((Hugs))) Jaye Jaye

Wendi, Tricare uses the Metropolitan Life Table, so you may be more overweight (according to Tricare) than you think. Here is a link for a copy of the table. http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/met.htm Tricare uses the lowest weight on the medium frame (unless your surgeon says you are small framed). They'll just mulitply that number by 2 (with no-comorbidities). I made the weight cutoff by only 6 lbs. I was concerned too. HTH Andi

well its normal to be scared and anxious. but look at the reasons you decided to do this. and look at your life if you dont go through the surgery. every person has different reactions to suregry, but you know a lot about the surgery, you know what your life will be like afterwards. you have it planned, so dont start panicking now, since you have waited a long time plus all the engery it took to get this far, you could always postpone the date or even decide not to do it, but i dont think you'll be happy with yourself if you do. just remember these feelings are normal, go and talk to someone that is a support person. feel free to email me or im me. my aim/aol is jennadweeb and email is [email protected] -jennifer
