Topic: I fought with Tricare and won!!!!!!
Well, I wanted to shout from the roof top today, that I battled with my insurance company and I was victorious. I had posted earlier that I was looking for a doctor here in Illinois, but my insurance company Tricare (military) was referring me to a doctor in Wisconsin. I did my research (about 8 hours worth) and the only doctor I could find was The Kane Center, who would take my insurance but they were non network. The two drs. who were on my provider list do not accept my insurance for WLS (go figure). So, after several hours of go around with the insurance company discussing the issues I had with going to Wisconsin, they agreed to let me go to Dr. Kane, Jr. I followed up just to make sure that the dr's office recieved the referral and that there were no issues. So, now I go to the seminar on 9/22!!!!!

Have you had a doctor determine if you are small boned? If you are you'd qualify. I wouldn't give up either! It is getting colder outside. If someone went to a weigh in with heavy boots on, heavy sweater or sweatshirt, it wouldn't be so odd..... Andi

Topic: RE: MTF covers Lapband in CA - need help
The only place I've heard of an MTF doing the Lap Band is Walter Reed in Washington DC. Have you tried the Lap-Band board? If you haven't, make sure to put Tricare in the subject line, it helps to better alert the Military Lap-Banders. Good luck! Andi

Topic: RE: I'm scared
That is very normal. I have been scared before every surgery. I have gone into the hospital shaking and so cold that they had to really hotpack me to get veins up. Which is a very good thing to ask for if you are cold and your veins look like little strings rather than big veins. It always helps get them up and that helps them get in easier. take some deep breaths and try to get some sleep. It will be fine. I don't regret having it done one little bit. My Blood pressure is already back to where it was over 20 years ago. Here are some big HUGS to help you through. Diana

Topic: RE: seminar date
It sounds like you have things moving. Too bad about the drive. If it is on base though, you will be able to stay in the hotel on base. That would help rather than an outside hotel for the night before and if you have to stay around for a day or 2 after. Good going on finding a Psych. That helps to get that done. Congratulations. Do what ever you have to do to meet the requirement. Comorbidities are: diabetis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or trigylcerides, sleep apnea, arthritis, asthma, or anything that is caused or exaserbated by your weight. The older you get the more you will develope. But, believe me you don't want to wait. My arthritis is extremely painful and I can't get all of it fixed. No one is touching my back with any surgery. I don't think depression counts and thyroid does not. Medically necessary to Tricare means you meet the requirements. Don't give up, but you might get depressed and eat lots of donuts and ice cream for a week or two. (oops, I didn't tell you that) It took about 8 weeks from the time my orthopedic surgeon sugested it to surgery. I had to see my PCP and then start with the surgeon. Hang in there, Diana
