They cannot fire you over this. They can hire a temp, but they have to take you back. You have rights. Check your state and federal labor laws through the labor deparements. Don't just roll over for them. Even if you can get a better job later. Diana

It is a process. This surgery is not for everyone and they want to screen out those that really won't take it seriously and minimize the risk for each patient. My DH got excellent care at Walter Reed. It was years ago of course and he won't talk much about the combat he went through. Too tramatic to relive. He really thinks it is one of the best hospitals ever. It's nice to hear that you are getting good care there. What do you do for work? If if were me I would quit just to have the time off. Ya right, I talk real big as I tried to sit and work 1 week after surgery. It took me 2 weeks to be able to. And of course, we need the money. I could not have gone to work if it were outside my home or on my feet for 4 weeks anyway. I have done that before and am paying for it now. Lack of sleep, no healing of eveyday wear and tear leads to early arthritis and other things. Plus, they are showing that not enough sleep leads to weight gain. I don't like to watch others do what I did because I am in a lot of pain. Thus, I am always "lectureing" about taking care of yourself. Trust me on this one, it is not worth it. This is a major surgery, it is a lot more than a tubal ligation or even a gall bladder. It really sounds like things are progressing well. It will be here before you know it. Diana PS. I have a hard time shutting up. But, I do care about people especailly those with the same struggles that I have had. We can relate well. Others just don't get it.

I have wondered if they have a support group myself, but everywhere I have looked I find nothing. I keep looking. Thanks for the welcome!

Hi Robin, I'm in the middle of my process, and so far I've found this website to be a huge help. The more support you can get, the better. Do you know if your base has some support groups? Without any help around, I'm sure that could be a great resource for you. Anyway, the girls on here are great and have a lot of wisdom to pass down to us. Welcome! -Adrienne

just wondering, but i am hoping i have a legal leg to stand on. after i have this surgery, i will be out of work for 4 weeks because i wont be able to lift anything over 10 lbs. my line of work requires me to assist a 200 lbs man. i told my boss about this today and he is saying that he is going to have to find someone to replace me after surgery. which, i understand. but, i thought there was laws in place for stuff like this? it's a medical reason as to why i cant work...soo....?

Diana, I swear you are so sweet...always asking how people are doing, and checking in on them I've been okay...more of a lurker on here in the past week or two. I already have my nutritionist and exercise therapy appointments behind me, so I've only got the psych eval, echo, and sleep study left to do (it's all going to be done by Oct 17th). The team at Walter Reed has been so great! In the meantime though, I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do about work after surgery, it may turn out that I have to quit this job they can't afford to have me out for 4 weeks. So, that's the biggest thing on my mind lately that I'm trying to get worked out. What a process though..... -adriene

Topic: Hello to all!
Hello from Luke AFB here in Arizona. I am still fairly new to this military life and to AZ. I am preparing to go through surgery with no family or friends around. Not going to be easy to do with a small child I am sure. Anyone else gone through the surgery or process in the same way? I am glad to have found this website and hope to meet many new people on here.

Sounds like you are really getting the ball rolling. You are right, it is just about bloodless. they can't get blood on the camera or they can't see, and everything is cauterized as it is cut. Now that is bloodless unless you ooze after like I do. I lost at least 2 pts of blood. Go figure. It always happens to me because my platelets don't work very well. It stops in time and I have never been in real danger. I am afraid to have a tummy tuck, etc because of it however. Questions are good and every dr has their own little things they do so it is good to know how your surgeon goes about the surgery and another thing to ask is Who is the assisting surgeon. The assistant is very important in laproscopic surgery. I hope we get some snow here. Most people think Idaho is cold, but we have a very mild climate here. I usually have my garden until at least mid Oct. and once It didn't freeze until Thanksgiving. We are in the "banana belt" here. Wish I could grow bananas here. The rest of Idaho is much colder, except up north around Lewiston. When the snow flies in Chicago, I will think of you and how you are freeezing and shoveling. Diana

Hi Diana, Well, I am going this Saturday to the seminar, and then I will be able to schedule the consult. I did more research this past weekend after finishing my homework. YouTube is amazing...I searched Bariatric, and I watched three different webcasts of lap RNY's! It gives you a better understanding of the procedure to watch one actually in progress (there is hardly any blood). Drawings just dont do the proceedure justice. I even came up with some really good questions for the doctor and how he does the proceedure. I am shooting for surgery in mid November We are getting our final week of summer here in the Chicago area, and soon the snow will be a flying.
