http://www-nmcp.mar.med.navy.mil/bariatric/index.asp Does anyone know whats going on here? The number (552) has been the same for about 3 weeks now....I can understand that there's only one surgeon (although it is August now and they're supposed to have help by now), but they haven't done any surgeries in over 3 weeks?!?! Ahhhhhhh! At this rate I'll never get a scheduled date! Secretly, I'm hoping that there's no one left on the wait list and I'll get my number and it'll be like 553! LOL! Not gonna happen, but I can always dream! I have my orientation on the 9th. And I'm hoping to ask about it at that point, but I didn't know if anyone had any inside information. Is there another website that they actually update? To the people who have had surgery at NMCP, what was your number and when did you have your surgery?

Topic: Another Newbie to this board...
Hi my name is April, I've been on OH for over a year now & I've always checked the AirForce board, but nothing ever goes on over there.. I just stumbled opon the Military board today.. My hubby is AD AF and has been for 7yrs.. I am 25 years old with a 18mth old son, Lucas.. We are station at Kessler AFB, Biloxi, MS. Yep good old Katrina land.. The program at Keesler hospital was going full speed a head when Katrina hit and they are just now starting to do the RNY starting next month.. I haven't been waiting that long since I was preggo with my son when all that happened, but I made the choice last July that I wanted to make this move for myself & my family. I've been waiting very patiently and it should be paying off sometime in September. I go for the Pre-op class on Aug 14th. I've already seen the Nut & Pysc. So those things are out of the way, not just a little longer I will join the loosers bench.. I'm very excited to have found this board. Hope you all don't mind me jumping in..

Topic: RE: TRICARE Standard Approval
Once you have everything done according to your surgeons requirements, they should submit all the paperwork for Tricares approval. So you better quit smoking! I have a civilian Doctor, so I assuming it makes no difference. Tricare is super confusing, I learn as I go, too. ~Brandy~

My DH got the movie. We jus****ched it. About half way through I was getting really concerned about him. I asked him about it and he was not happy. He didn't want to turn it off. I think he had to fini**** He liked Band of Brothers and Finding Private Ryan, but this movie has really upset him. It was too close to what he went through in Viet Nam. He won't talk much about his experiences because it is too hard. He spent 8 1/2 years in combat and since he is a Ranger you can imagine what he did and where he was. You have to remember that he was in during the early years there. He was in a command position and sent many men out knowing they would not return. My heart is breaking for hm right now. He didn't need to see this. I wish I had seen it or knew more about it before I let him watch it. His blood pressure just went up 20 points. (he has to check it before he takes his meds night and morning) He is trying to read now to get his mind off of it. I have never seen him get this upset about a movie before. Most he can watch over and over. "Tora,Tora,Tora", "In Harms Way" and even "Wind Talkers". We have "Band of Brothers" and he has watched it repeatedly. They have asked him to come back in the Army. I know it would be too hard for him to go back. Enough is enough. I just needed to say something and this is the only place were I can. Thanks for listening and I understand when you or your DH have hard times. After being deployed they need a lot of understanding and they often don't want to revisit their experiences. Thanks Diana

my daughter now visit the soldiers on a daily basis as she can. she told me when they see her their eyes filled with tears because she drops by to visit and spend quality time talking with them in which they need. you have to understand all they interact with are doctors, nurse and physical therapist for moments at a time, but no one to really talk or interact with. when my daughter goes there she said she feel prepared for when if it does happens to her husband since he is going back to combat redeployment again, she is prepare and ready to deal with it. my daughter has to be strong and the force for when he returns back home because what is going on over there is extremely hostile on a daily basis and he has been in the fire of IEDs which i have pics on my profile. she is doing a service visiting the injured and disabled soldiers and at the same time having the ability for her own prepareness.

Topic: RE: EFMP??
I was curious too last night, so I did a search and this is what I found. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,4856/cat_id, 4456/topic_id,3306348/ Quote from the last posters response. "I used to work for the EFMP program not air force but the army and the program is the same throughout all armed forces. It's mainly for family members with long term illness, handicapped family members and those with certain birth defects. Those requiring specialists and continuous care to "stay alive". Being a gastric bypass patient does not fall into any of the areas I named. As long as you can get health care for "normal" things, then you should be able to see someone to get labs, etc. for yourself to keep up with your levels. The commissary or exchange should carry your supplements you will need or you can probably special order through AAFES or the Commissary. I would describe in detail on the forms about your condition and if you can get a letter from your doctor saying it will be ok for you to travel and live there. The program is GREAT but does hinder some familes being able to stay together. The military person is always deployable regardless if their FM is in EFMP but on certain instances, the military member can get a deferrment to another duty station near care for the family member. I've seen it happen several times." HTH Andi
