Tricare Prime and lap band surgery

Hi all, Navy wife stationed at Fort Dix,NJ and just beginning the process to be approved for a lap band surgery. Has anyone been approved,or know of anyone who has been approved, for the lap band with Tricare Prime insurance? I haven't seen any posts from military dependents who were approved for the lap band surgery through Tricare and was just wondering if anyone knows if they even approve this weight loss surgery. Appreciate any information you can share Laura

From what I understand Tricare will not pay for lap band they consider it experitmental .. I know another lady on here tried to get lap band and was denied and now is getting the RNY

Not in our region. They only approve Open and Lap RNY for WLS. They consider Lap Band experimental. The ladies that had lap band here paid for their own surgery. Tricare did not cover anything for it except labs. Hello...I had my lap band on 12-18-03. And Tricare approved mine. However now they do not cover it. Don't give up on it though. I do feel that they will pay for it again!!!! I love my band so much. Beth 12-18-03 262/138 @ GOAL!!!!!!!!! Tummy Tuck 2-25-05

I was approved for Lap Band at Walter Reed I got a date 4 weeks after submitting my referral letter. I spoke with my surgeon yesterday he is lookink for more people he doesn't advertise so he has to rely solely on word of mouth to get the word out. Dr. Long at Walter Reed in DC General Surgery

I am in at process of trying to get the lap band, but I can not find anyone that has tricare prime that has been approved for the lap band. How did things go for you? I am still praying and hoping I can get it soon.
