I am going through a civilian surgeon, and have been to the seminar and my first appointment with the person that works with Tricare to get me approve. My question is, at this appointment I was told that I would have to pay for my psych eval and nutritionist out of pocket.  Has anyone else had to pay out of pocket?

I had to pay out of pocket for the nutritionist but not the psych eval.  I know it stinks but hopefully your insurance company can reimburse you.

I had to pay for the psych, but only the co-pay; didn't pay for nutritionist.

Sorry, I cant answer your question but I have one for you or anyone who can answer. I have seen a Bariatric Dr. already . I have gone to the seminars, support groups, benn cleared by the nutrionist and psychiatrist. I received m letter from blue cross blue shield stating that I was denied. My husband is being deployed (currently a reservist) and I wanted to use submit approval through  TRICARE.  *IF I STAY WITH THE CURRENT SERGEON, APPROX. HOW MUCH AM I LOOKING AT FOR OUT OF POCKET FEES WITH A CIVILIAN SURGEOn, with a gastric sleeve? Was approved very quickly thru TRICAREin 2005, but was unsure of the bypass surgery

Are you anywhere near a base where they perform the surgery.  That may be your cheapest route. I went through the whole fiasco at UCLA  and then we got orders to Wright-Patt. It did set me back quite a bit in time, but I haven't had to redo everything and I'm back on track to get my surgery done, hopefully, in the next two months.

Will Tricare even approve the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.  They will approve the vertical banded gastronomy but that is NOT the same as the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

I did not have to pay out of pocket for either one.  I had went to the nutritionist on base pertaining to the surgery and when I went to the surgeon who is now doing my surgery they accept that and I just had to have the paperwork faxed over to them.  I aso seen the Psychoogist on base.
