Tricare???
I went to a seminar lastnight and was talking to the lady who files all your paperwork w/ your insurance company. I told her that my BMI was 40.1 and she said that she thinks that I might have a hard time w/ Tricare b/c I dont have any other health problems. But then she said that if I could show that I have consistantly gained weight and none of my gain is from pregnancy and that I have family history that I might have a chance. Anyone have any words of wisdom? I have already looked up Tricares requirements and even called to make sure that they told me the same thing on the phone that I found on the internet so I know what the requirements are. Just wondering what everyone else thinks. Do I even have a chance or am I wasting my time?
I am not a doctor, but you may have a chance. With Tricare care you have to be 100 or more pounds overweight. They say that you have to have co-morbidities, but I didn't. And was just approved on Monday. One requirement is to be 200% of the ideal weight for your height. You can to go mytricare.com, register if you have not, and go to AskUs. That is a place were you can email a Tricare rep and they will answer you. That is how I found out about the 200 %. It never hurts to try. I would say you have a chance. I don't have a family history of obesity- not on my mom or dad's side. And like I said, I don't have any co-mordbitites. So you never know. I got approved. Good luck.
You do have a good chance of being approved. You do need to be 200% of your ideal, as TaReesa said, usually a BMI of 40 will do that. Just don't lose any weight before you go in for your offical weigh-in. I have plenty of comorbidities, but I am much older than you. You will develope them in the future, better to get this taken care of now so you avoid them.
We will be here to root for you. If you are like me and most of us, you will just keep gaining. I wish I could have done this years ago. Go for it. Diana
