Has anyone else stopped smoking for the surgery and then get depressed even more so when you realize you have gained more weight?? I almost cried on the scale today when I went to the Dr's office and stepped on the scale. On a good note though, my paperwork is being submitted for approval so hopefully it will not be much longer then I can get a surgery date. They are scheduling about 2-3 months out right now.

Congratulations. Try not to let it get you down. That is a great accomplishment in itself. I have never smoked, but I can imagine that it is a very, very hard thing to do. Just think about how much better your lungs and heart will be, not to mention your skin. If I smoked, I'd be in real trouble. I have emphsyma like damage in my lungs form asthma. The biggest thing limiting me riding my bike is my lungs, I just can't breath fast enough. I can't walk and talk at the same time and often I have to slow down as I speak because I am out of breath. Remember that if you get tempted to go back. It isn't worth it. I would give a lot to be able to breath normally. At least Tricare doesn't require that you maintain a weight loss before surgery. Keep up the good work. You are doing supper. I really admire anyone who quits smoking. Diana

I had to quit smoking, I knew the surgeon wouldnt do my surgery unless I was smoke free, I quit in May 07 with the help of Chantix and my surgery was in Aug 07. I gained 18lbs after I quit smoking and hated myself, but it seems we get rid of one habit and get another to I guess justify it??? lol People smoke around me now and it doesnt make me want one I just hate the smell now. It gets better so hang in there ok? I thank God every day for taking away my craving for cigs. Hugs Donna S Ft. Stewart GA
