Hi, I am about two weeks away from my first surgeons visit and was hoping to have quit smoking prior to that visit. I went to my pcp and got a script for Chantix, got to the pharmacy and found out it is not covered under tricare. It is $125.00 to buy right out. I called Tricare and they said that if any of the base pharmacy's had it then you could get it there. Well my question is if anyone is close to Fort Gordon or Fort Jackson and have a phone number to their pharmacy. I live 65 to 75 miles away from either of the Forts. I can call on Monday and see if they have it and not drive to find out they dont. I am so sad that I havnt already got to get the medicine and start to STOP smoking. Thanks for any help I can get on this.

it worked great, except for me feeling sick on my stomach it was wonderful. I only had to take it for 1 month, and I had been a smoker for 15yrs smoked about a pack per day. Some people take longer some less but it took me a month, dont get me wrong for about a month after I had quit I was still having that urge for a cig but not anymore, so far so good, Ive been quit now since May. I wish you lots of luck. Donna S

You know what...I am in the same boat as you are! I got the prescription and the pharmacy said the same thing and it cost the same $125.00... I wonder if you can send your prescription to the Tricare Retail Pharmacy through the mail? Call Tricare for the Express Scripts package and in the meantime, ask if they will provide Chantix. You must make sure your personal info (status, address, phone number and email) is current with DEERS to make sure you are eligible for the retail pharmacy benefit. You can check www.tricare.osd.mil/deers/default.cfm to update your information. I am sorry if I dont answer your question directly but maybe I am helping you to go on the right track. I will be calling on Monday to see if we can do it by mail since our local pharmacy wont give it to us for $3.00 co pay. I will come back here if I find out something.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have not tried that I have called the nearest base to me what are two fort jackson and fort gorden and only one offered the chantix but there was a catch to that. You had to complete a smokers sensation course to be able to get the perscription filled (does this sound as stupid to you as it did to me?) Well I said ok then I will just go and take this little class and run by and get my script filled but when I called to enroll for the class it was a four day class and it was only one class a week. It would take a month to finish this course and more gas than the perscription would cost me to go 4 times to augusta. Anyway if you call on monday and find out anything else we can do let me know. I am soooooooo desperate for this medication I have thought about going on and paying that amount but geeze that is alot!! Thanks for the reply and let me know how you are doing. I am going to add you to my friends list if thats ok by you. Thanks Liz
