so i called my drs office today and they finally gave me the ok that the approval has been put throuugh to have a consultaion with general surgery (?) at the military hospital. they said i have to go through him to make sure i need it, to order my tests such as labs and endoscopy, and what ever. hopefully everything will work out that i dont have to pay out of pocket..
did any of you gals have to see a general surgeon before you saw your gastric bypass dr?
I had to see a general surgeon before so that he could put in an order for me to see a gastric bypass Doctor. AFter I was referred to a WLS doctor the ball just kept rolling, I didn't have a problem with tri-care at all, however I went through a MTF so that may have been why.
I wish you luck on your journey, Im a newbie Post-op but if you have any questions just ask I will try to help you.

which hospital are you going to? my husband is from south texas
also, is the general surgeon the one that is actually doing the surgery? i didn't have to see a general surgeon before the entire process was started, just an initial consulation with the surgeon doing my surgery...but he does work in general surgery maybe that'll be the case with you as well

its nas corpus christi, we actually are stationed at nas kingsville, so its like 30 miles south from corpus. its just a small little town. yea and i have no clue if they even do gastric bypass there. i am not sure if i have to see them in corpus chrisiti then refer me out to a civi in san antonio. but that sure would be nice if i could have done at corpus which is only a 40 mile drive verces san antonio that is 161miles.
Congrats on getting your consult.. I think it depends on if your General Surgeon does the Bypass surgery or not.. I got mine done at Keesler Medical Center here at the Air Force base & when I got my referral I saw the doctor who was doing my surgery, so right to the Gastric doctor, but all of the Gastric bypass doctors are General Surgeons, so it just depend if they do it or not.. I know if you get it done at a military hospital you will not have to pay anything at all and you shouldn't have to if you go to a civilian provider either, cause the only reason they are refering you off base is because they don't offer the service at the base hospital. If you have any question just shoot me a message.. Hope everything goes smoothly for you!
