Moving 2 Germany!!!
I havent seen my surgeon yet and we will be moving from Maryland to Germany the end of Nov. Should I try to get the surgery done b4 we leave or after I get there. Has anyone lived in Landstuhl Germany b4. Does anyone know if they do the surgery at LRMC in Germany??? I dont want to give up my only chance to have my surgery. I have to wait till my husbands reinlisting bonus comes thru to even make the appointment with my surgeon...Please help...What should I do????
Im not sure if you'll be able to have the surgery where you are now. I belive you need to have a year of retainability(sp) at your current base.
I can tell you for a fact that LRMC does not do WLS. But fear not. There are 2 Drs here in Germany that do wls and tricare covers all if it 100%. Im having my surgery at St Johanis(sp) which is only 5 minutes from LRMC. Then theres another Dr in Frankfurt that performs the surgery too.
Now I know you want to get the ball going. BUt I would suggest you wait till you get to Germany. It shouldnt take long for you to get a referal from your PCM. For me, it took about a month from when my PCM put the referal in to see the surgeon, have my appt with the surgeon, wait for tricare to approve me and get my surgery date. It happened pretty quick. And from what I hear, thats the norm.
Alrighty, I hope this made sense to you. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

My bestfriend is in Germany now she is at Landstuhl, she had her surgery in Feb 2007 and is doing great! She is pcs'ing back to the states in Dec though she might could help you out with names. I will ask her the next time she is online if it is ok to give you her email address, not that I don't trust you I just respect her privacy so please don't take that the wrong way ... I would never give yours out either for that matter, I would always ask first.
Any how I would be more than glad to do that if thats what you want?
Hugs
Donna
ps.......... she has had a blast since she's been in Germany her and her family have done so many things and all she talks about is how beautiful it is there.
Aww, dont be scared. Germany is a GREAT place to live. We've been here since Mar 04 and have extended once already. We were tring to extend for a 2nd time. But we're getting the boot next yr. Which really makes me sad. Both my boys and myself have been to so many places that most can only dream of going to.
Come here with a positive attitude. It will make a world of difference for your expericence. Also, you now know someone here.....MEE!!! LOL. So that can make the transition better.

my daughter moved to germany from ft hood, killeen texas in march 2007 and LOVES living in germany. she was scared being in a foreign country and a language she doesn't understand., now, she doesn't want to come back to the states, lol. she will be at baumholder for 3 years and her husband just got his re-deployment orders to leave anywhere from sept to nov of this year. she will be alone again for 15-18 months. she lived in killeen texas alone for 12 months while her husband was in iraq.
germany is very beautiful and the people are friendly. my daughter even picked up some german words to converse with the locals. i am heading to germany for 2 weeks next year in late summer. maybe earlier.
Well I thought about the whole Germany thing and decided to move me and my kids back to VA to be close to my family. I have given 7 years to prove to me how he felt about me and our kids and I finally WOKE up and relized that he doesnt give a SH** about any of us. So why should I pack up my kids and travel so far away from people that love us. Thanks to all of u that replied. I am gonna try to get the surgery done b4 we move.
