WAY OFF TOPIC!!!!!!!

I am moving!!!!!! We knew that we would only be here in SC through the end of the year (Brent's time as a drill sgt is coming to an end). Yesterday we found out that we will be moving to ANCHORAGE AK!!!!! I am sooooooooooo excited!!! This is the duty station we wanted (Ft Richardson). He was calling yesterday to try to get Ft Drum NY. He thought that AK was out of the question. Just so happened that they did have one opening as of as of that morning. Again, we are SUPER DUPER EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell me about it. I'm here right know at Ft Sill OK. I think they just need to close this base down. They don't have any money . Most the house on post are empty they dont have the money to fix them up and the hospital is another story. And they keep bring more people in. The town it's self is just DIRTY!!!!!!!!! I have 3 more years here. Hopefully DH will get some where else before then. I would love Alaska. I miss the fresh seefood being from WA. Can't find anything here. Good luck on your move. Heidi

My DH is going to be really unhappy to hear this. It was a good Base when he was there. (60's) He did a lot of teaching there. ( artillary) He has always wanted to go back and visit. To me it's just hot, dry and flat. Like you I am used to Mountains. We can't get good seafood here either. Of course, I was in high School in the 60's so I have never been there. Thank goodness, because I don't think I could've taken it so well because he was often behind lines and "no one" knew where he was. How is Ft Benning? Is it still a good base? Derrill went to OCS and part of Ranger training and taught small arms fire there. Would you believe that was 1961. That date should tell you where he's been. He used to think he was real tough. And he was. He still is really. I don't worry about anyone breaking in as long as he is here. And my daughter is just testing into black belt for Shaolin Kunfu. She really is quite dangerous like a wolverine. Sorry I'm so long winded, I just needed to talk I guess. Derrill is in Boise today buying a new (to us) car. I am excited. We picked it out yesterday. Ohhh Erica.. I'm so jealous! And so happy for you!! We lived in Sitka and Kodiak Island and I've never been the same. Its a the way of life that I fell in love with. Hope you love to fish... we had so much we had to give it away. Now I look at Halibut and Salmon prices and I just cringe.. hehe When do you leave?

Wow Erica I am so happy for you!!! I love to watch the tv show Deadliest Catch on Discovery. The background scenery on the show is always so beautiful!!! I love crab legs!!! Can't get much fresher seafood than you will be able to get!! You might have liked SC; but oh boy was I so happy to leave that place. LOL I never realized how much Drill Sergeants had to endure. I knew it would be alot; but I never knew it was to that extent. Again I am so happy for you. Things are all going you way!!! You are such a nice person, and have been so great to talk with!!! That's so cool! I'd love to do Alaska, just not next. Too big of a climate change for me to handle. But with our luck I wouldn't put it past the Army to send us from Hawaii to Alaska! ~Tanja
