Ft. Benning Army Wife...anyone else out there in the Ft. Benning area

Hi! I am hoping to have the surgery soon and was wondering if anyone else out there is going though this too. I have my first group consult on Aug 2 with Dr. Steinberg in Decatur, GA. I want to go sooner but this was the first available they had. So I'm just looking for more info and maybe someone who has been seen by him and what all you have to go through. So if anyone has any info let me know. Nice to meet all of you!

Hi! And Welcome to the boards!! My hubby did OSUT and BNCOC there in Benning. We are not too far. He is a drill sgt here in ft jackson (SC). Aug 2 seems like a while to wait. Is this who tricare has referred you to see? Have you checked to see if there were other surgeons within the area that you could see? Or have you checked the GA site to see about other docs in the area that accept Tricare? So sorry I can't help you more. Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions! erica (infantywife)

HI and thanks for the response. Yeah this is who tricare has picked but i checked him out and he seems great (from what I have seen other ppl post) I am just ready ready ready! Aug 2 was his first available, they said they would let me know if there was a cancellation so I can attend sooner. I have checked around and I am having a hard time finding anyone else in my area. Sorry I can't help you with the dr. I am in Idaho. But welcome to the board. My husband has spent a lot of time at Ft Benning. That was a long time ago. I have my first appt with my surgeon in 2 weeks. I am excited and nervous. We'll get through together. Keep looking I finally found someone who has had surgery with my dr. He is the only local dr that accepts Tricare. His credentials are impressive. He has done a lot of rny's. He has a great staff. I hope you can find someone. You may meet someone at the group consult. It is really nice to have confidence in your surgeon. In case anyone want's to know I am usually up at this time. I am a night owl. Diana

Hello and thanks for the response. Thats great 2 weeks be sure to let me know how that goes. I am so ready to have this surgery. I have been mulling over it for about 5 years and have finally decided to do something about it. I have checked out my doc too and seems to be great. Thanks again and keep me posted.

Hi there and welcome, Im Donna and I am at Ft. Stewart but having my surgery at Ft. Gordon cause they dont have a surgeon here any longer that performs that type of surgery. Im about 3 hours from you I think so not to far away you can join, erica and I to go visit another wls friend in Florida. I just had my Endoscopy today and will have my psych eval on July 3 then they will sent my surgery date, I am soooooooo ready. Hope all goes well for you. Donna

I am from Ft. Stewart Im about 3 hrs away. I know that isn't close but we can still be friends and maybe visit eachother from time to time. Donna

NP...about the double post. I am so ready too. I have thought about this for the past 5 years and now I just wanna do it. I wonder what all kinds of test I am gonna have to take. I have been researching WLS since 2002 and Ive finally decided to have it, Ive lost weight and gained it and more back over the years. But I didnt start the process until the later part of April and so far Ive gotten everything but my nutrician and psych eval left then they will schedule my surgery, I was hoping for some time in July but was told it may be sometime in late August Early Sept so Im just waiting now.
