Has Tricare approved anyone who had a BMI of 38 with Diabetes? I set up my 1st consult and the nurse on the phone made it sound as if I wouldnt be approved because My BMI wasnt over 40 and I wasnt 100 lbs overweight, More like 90lbs.

I wish you luck. I know that the Tri-care handbool states that you have to be 100 Lbs overweight with co-morbities or 200% of you recommended weight. I think they go more by weight than BMI from what I understand. Make sure when you weigh that they recheck your height. I know my BMI went up because I am not as tall as I thought. Which also makes me more overweight.

LOL! My BMI went up as well. All these years I thought I was 5'5". I'm actually 5'3 1/2". I can't believe I messed that up.

I would say try anyways. I've had conflicting reports about the BMI issue. My Case Manager told me that our MTF surgeons operate on 35 BMI with co-morbs. Are you going through a MTF?

I didnt even know that there were MTF's out there that did these surgeries. So no our doesn't. They dont do anything out ours, its very undermanned.

Ha! Sounds like ours!!! We don't even have OB services at ours!!! How far are you from Ft. Gordon??? WLS is performed there and if something happens where tricare won't approve, you can try to get into Gordon and then tricare won't have to be dealt with.
