Have any of you had any problems PCSing overseas after RNY? I am waiting on final approval from Tricare. I am hoping for a June /July date. We are getting orders to Japan around the first of the year. I have heard in the past RNY posed a problem with overseas screening, but I don't know about current times. I am trying to follow up on it, but you all know how the military is, you don't get answers 'till they want to give you answers. If you can give me any info, I would appreciate it.

All I can tell you is that I would advise you NOT tell your PCM or your surgeon that you are PCSing overseas. One of the first things they told us in the meetings here on Fort Bragg was that if you are PCSing, you are not eligible for surgery at the time because there are so many follow up appointments they may not know how to deal with it in Japan or anywhere else you could go. If you have the surgery before PCSing you are allowed to be listed as a special family member or whatever it's called. My husband and I were supposed to get stationed in Japan and leave in October. Thankfully those orders got cancelled. We got information on it and they told us that we couldn't take our vehicles OR our own furnature. We would have to put everything in storage back here. My husband is still in Iraq and they cancelled his orders about a month after he recieved them because they said that he was needed more in Iraq than Japan. BEST OF LUCK! ~*Amber*~

Thanks for the info. My surgeon already knows. I have to be here at lease 6 months then he will follow through my PCM. On the other note, we have been to Japan before and LOVED it. The orders we are getting we requested. You are right about the car and furniture. You can get temporary furniture for as long as you want it. As far as a car, people come and go so often over there you can buy a car dirt cheep. So if he gets orders again, don't be discouraged. After 12+ years in the Corp I have learned a deployment or PCS is what you make of it, so make it the best you can!

I have a friend who was stationed in Germany and while her hubby deployed, she came back home to SC and she had lap RNY here and 7 months post op or so, she headed back to Germany. Don't know if that helps.
