Topic: RE: Dr Q (Quinones)

I realize that this might be a little late for a response but wanted to share anyways.  I had surgery with Dr. Quinones on 6/20, that's 4 days ago.   I had a very positive exerience.  Okay, having surgery is never ever a fun or easy experience, add travelling out of the country on top of that.   All that said, I came out of it pretty well.   Everything, logistically flowed well, the people providing transporation and arranging logding all knew what they were doing, the nursing care was excellent, better than that I have received during other hospitalizations here in the the nation's capitol.    I mention that because in my head, nursing care is so so critical.    The physical appearance of the facility was not what we expect here in the states but it was fine inside.   The doctor made himself very available and accessible and best of all, I came out of the surgery just fine.  Yes, there was pain, but that is what pain medication is for.    I am home and at this point, I am mostly just really worn out.  My incisions are doing fine and my pain is more like soreness most of the time rather that pain.    So that is my experience with surgery in Mexico.

Topic: RE: Dr. Joya or Dr. Hidalgo

Hubby had a VSG with Dr. Joya 3 years along. He has done fabulous. The hotel, hospital and services provided were top notch. We chose Dr. Joya because we personally know previous patients of his who had done so well and gave him stellar recommendations. We were flying from NL, Canada - so it was much easier for us to fly to PV, rather than to San Diego and have to be picked up and across the border. I am an Emergency Room RN of 34 yrs. That doesn't make me special - but it did make me very much aware of all the aspects of my husband's experience. I don't have any negative thoughts about it. We did go to PV one day earlier one earlier than the plan stated. As it was a long journey from NL - it gave us a day to relax and unwind and explore the area surrounding and in the resort. I think the extra night at the sunset plaza was around $100 USD. Well worth it. Good luck to you!

Topic: Verifying Surgeons for Revision (Mexico)

Good morning everyone,

I am an WLS vet.  I had Lap-Band surgery back in 2008.  I lost a significant amount of weight and was very successful, for a total of 83lbs, from my highest of 230 to 147lbs. I just had a baby (15 months), and my band slipped with moderate dilatation. I need to have my band removed. I am thinking of doing a gastric sleeve since restriction seems to work well for me. I am up to 194lbs, and am doing my best to not climb any higher, but know that can be difficult.

I am writing to see if any of you have used Medical Tourism Corporation?  I am looking at either Tijuana or Cancun.  They are recommending Dr.Francisco Gonzalez at the Florence Hospital or Dr. Hector Perez Corzo at Victoria Hospital.

I am looking for a combination of a great surgeon with experience doing lap-band revisions and reasonable costs.  I am looking to spend an estimated $5k on the surgery.  Travel costs will be separate.  I also want to be in the hospital and not a clinic.

I'd love to hear if you've had specific experience with this company and if you have someone else you'd recommend.

Thanks!

Belle

I had looked into Dr. Joya when I was looking for a surgeon and almost chose him, but ended up going with someone in TJ.  Good luck to you, whomever you choose.

Just an update that I am most likely going to go with Dr. Hidalgo.  Also, I had been researching Dr. Alejandro Lopez last week and got a follow up call today from their coordinator.  She became slightly derisive about Dr. Hidalgo then did her sales pitch about how Dr. Lopez was a much better surgeon with better facilities (but I think she thinks he is in a different hospital), and is just better all around, and that his wife is also a bariatric surgeon, etc.

Hey everyone!  Thanks to those who posted on my last topic!  My family and friends were very much opposed to TJ, but they are good with other cities.  I am currently looking at Dr. Joya and Dr. Hidalgo.  Has anyone used either of them?  Please tell me about your experience!
