Once you are in the hotel, you will need to pay for food etc. Altho I would suggest bring some canned soup to drink the broth, and/or package soup etc and a hot pot type thing to heat your water to make it with as there is no microwave in the rooms, I had a heck of a time trying to find broth to eat as I didnt like the hotel room service broth at all YUCK! Natilie will take you to a store to get juice, water, etc but you will have a hard time finding any broth that tastes good. I did wind up walking across to Outback for the Onion soup and it was GREAT!!
I didnt go by myself, my hubby was with me and I was glad. I did have complications, and a second surgery, blood transfution etc. but am very glad I had this done!!
If you have any ther questions please feel free to email me, my WLS date was March 13, 2006
i agree with kim---it was hard to find good post-op foods down there, unless you go to the restaurants. (i loved the miso soup from the japanese place at the resort!) even though there is a walmart and other stores there, don't expect to find what you'd find here in the u.s.. i would have brought my own broth, had i known how difficult it was gonna be to find good stuff down there. the room service broth was really funky PLUS it wasn't cheap, since it came with chicken, rice, bread, etc.. my brother was with me, thank god, but i had awesome "surgery buddies", so if you MUST go alone, try to connect with others who will be there with you. the support you get from each other is wonderful. good luck!
Well, I am going to disagree with the other posts. I went to the restaurant and ate my soup there. I never called room service. After being cooped up in the hospital all that time I was ready to be out and about. I asked for just the broth from the soup they had on the menu and I thought it was really good. If you don't eat all of it you can ask for it to go and take it back to your room. You can either bring your own hot pot or I think Nathalie has one you can borrow if no one else is using it. I did not go by myself, but I did eat at the restaurant once by myself and it is very nice since it is really outdoors and you can see the beach and the pool from the same place.
Go.....enjoy yourself!!! This can be a great adventure if you go into it with the right attitude. I had a great time and would do it over again. I had my surgery on January 9th and am down 71 pounds. I feel great...and pardon me but am starting to look great.
