Hello!
Hi Traci!
I just wanted to stop by and say hi! I read your profile and completely understand how bad you want this. I, too, took another job to try to get coverage without any luck! You will not regret having surgery, it is such a life-saving tool. I started at 264 (5'5") and size 24. It's been almost 10 months and I'm 164 and size 8/10! My health has improved so dramatically, no more diabetes! I wish you the best of luck in this journey, it's just beginning! As for Dr. A, I've heard nothing but good things on this board for over 3 years! You will be in good hands!

I'm another Dr. Rumbuat patient. Started at 320 size 24/26, now at 210 and size 14. Still working at it.
It was a great experience (if you want too much detail -- check my profile) and I'm glad I did it.
Advice? I suggest reading the profiles of other folks that have used Dr. Aguirre - you'll learn the "too much detail" from them. Also, post any specific questions you have. As June comes closer you will likely find others going to your surgeon the same time you are, it is nice to make some surgery friends.
Once you return, be active on the South of the Border Forum. I also suggest becoming active in your month/year of surgery forum (June 2006). There will be 30 to way more than that people going through what you are doing the same time you are. It is great to get to know these folks, and you will learn more.

Hi there!
It's not often I visit South of the Border and I really should do it more often.
My sister (twin) had her surgery May '05 by Dr. Aguirre. I followed and had mine done just this last February by Dr. Aguirre. My sister went with me when I had mine done and so Dr. Aguirre was pleased to see my sisters progress while I was there. In my profile I include several comments about Dr. Aguirre and his assistant surgeon as well as the staff.
My sister and I stayed in the apartment they rent out to patients. They provided towels and water there. The apartment was fully funished and even had online service. It is in walking distance of tourist shops or even a big market called Gigante. Just down the mini hill is a park that they were doing some fresh sidewalk work on when we were there.
Bambi likely will be picking you up when you get to the airport (that is if you are coming into San Diego) and he is extremely patient and kind. Rosella, Dr. Agurre's daughter, does alot of coordinating of your follow-up appointments and they are so good at checking in and making sure things are all good. They are not only concerned about your physical condition after surgery but they do all they can to make your stay comfortable....like helping to get phone cards if you need one....to washing the towels if you have run out of clean ones.
I would just buy whaterver grocery items you think you will need right there at Gigante. They have everything. Crystal Lite is a good thing to get there. Mashed potatoes were available there. Pan-Tostada.
All in all I think you will be pleased. On my first day there Dr. Aguirre met with me and went over the medical release papers I brought with me. He then thoroughly explained surgery procedures to me and why he performs them the way he does and makes sure you understand all that. He is a warm, gentle doctor. I did not meet the assistant until the next day and also met anesthesialogist (Dr. Vega) then too. The nursing staff is absolutely terrific. They do their best to understand english and they are soooo attentive, patient and kind. Also, your first three to four days back out of hospital at apartment, a nurse comes to help with showers and bandaging.
woe, I guess I have included enough here for the post. Anything else you may want to know, just email me from my profile.
