Ladies, please help me. Have any of you heard antyhing negative about any of the Bari docs south of the boarder for lap-bands? Does anyone know of anyone who does fills in Oregon? How much? That's all right now. Any Lap-Band advice/tips?

I'd suggest making a list of the surgeons you are considering, then ask about them specifically. I found reading profiles of people who had their surgery by that surgeon very helpful. Many posted a large amount of detail, that helped me decide who I wanted to do my surgery. To find a surgeon who does fills in Oregon: 1. Ask your surgeon in Mexico for a referral, sometimes they have folks in the US that they've worked with in the past. 2. Visit the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons at http://www.asbs.org/html/about/membersearch2.html and enter your information. The will list surgeons in your area. Those with "foll" after their name are willing to follow up on patients of other surgeons. -Pam

Falice - I don't think Dr. Mirande will do the fills for you and I think the same goes for Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay. I have only heard of one person in Oregon who does fills for those who went to Mexico and I don't know her name, but she is a doctor in the Portland area. For the life of me, I cannot remember her name. I believe she is somewhat of a holistic med doctor or something like that. As far as negative things about the docs in Mexico for the band, probably not a lot more than anything in the US, but the big kicker is getting the fills right. I have heard very negative things from several people about a Sergio Verboonen. One woman posted on here that her band was too tight and she couldn't keep anything down, and he refused to return her calls or see her to fix the problem. Another didn't have enough of a fill (she was in Oregon too) and hadn't lost but maybe 10-15 lbs over a 6 month period. She too couldn't reach him. For both of them, they couldn't find local docs to help them out at the time, but I'm thinking later on the one from Oregon found someone who could help. Since I didn't have the lap band, I didn't keep up on the specifics like that for it. I did go to Mexico though but had the RNY with Dr. Aguirre. Hope that helps. Dina

Thanks ladies for the tips. According to the ASBS site there are numerous Docs in Oregon listed as "FOLL". I will confirm and let you know. Thanks for your time responding to me.

I had looked into the band initially. There were a lot of American fill docs, the problem is that most will not touch you once they find out your band was placed in Mexico! When you call a fill doc, make it VERY clear that your band was placed in Mexico. Many have lined up appointments for fills, drove all the way to the doc and then got sent home because the doc decided he would not touch the Mexican band. As for surgeons, I had Dr. Rumbaut for RNY, he does a lot of bands (many more than RNY) and has been for years. I definately recommend him. Good luck! Hi Falice, I had a RNY in Colombia with Dr. Mikler it was the best choice I ever made. He told me he also performs a surgery called sleeve gastrectomy that has the same results as a Lap band, but you dont have to worry about fillings and have a piece of plastic inside you, its permanent He work with a group of very professional and lovely people. I suggest you should talk to him before make a decision. his website is www.byebyeobesity.com Good Luck Angela
