Has anyone heard anything good or bad about Dr. Huacuz in Tijuana? I'm considering having lap band surgery in June and ran across this Dr. I haven't seen anything about him on this site and was wondering if anyone has heard of him or had any experiences with him. I will be a self-pay, so money is a factor. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I am scheduled for lap band on Feb. 28th in Mexico,I did a lot of research and didn't come across his name.I am doing my surgery with Dr. Aceves because the price was among the lowest I found ($8200)and he had many positive patient testimonials.I am also a self-pay,and was able to pay $5000 down and do their in-house financing for the balance.Hopefully, I made a great choice!!I will be happy when it is over and the nervous anticipation is gone.Hope this helps in some way. Good luck! Shelley

Thanks for the info Shelley. I have also looked at Dr. Aceves' band forum and so far, haven't come across anything negative. I haven't been in contact with his clinic, but maybe will look into it a little closer. Does the $8200 include airfare? How does their in-house financing work? Is the interest rate pretty high? Have you actually spoken on the phone with any of his previous patients and did any of them have any complications? Thanks for the reply....every little bit helps. Jennifer

Dr. Huacuz did my lap band in December, 2004. There were no complications and I healed perfectly. I went back to him for cosmetic surgery in August & December 2005 (lipo, breast implants & lift). He did a great job on everything, and brought in a specialist for the lift. I have been completely pleased with Dr. Huacuz's work. He's a skilled surgeon, his hospital is clean and comfortable, and the staff speak passable English. On each visit I was moved to a very nice hotel for recovery, which was a bonus. My only advice is to be sure to get the Inamed lapband, because I heard of a woman who got the Johnson band and had complications. No idea if the complications were actually related to the brand of lapband, but I thought I'd mention it. Good luck with your decision!

Hi Stephanie, I actually heard about Dr. Huacuz by reading old posts on this forum...so I looked up his website-huacuz.com. Their price is $7000 which doesn't include airfare, but everything else. After getting all the information, I googled his name and came across a lapband forum thread that I wasn't really impressed with. Actually, it kind of scared me into thinking about going elsewhere. I have also read a lot of good about Dr. Huacuz though, and I have been in contact with one of his previous patients and she is very positive about his abilities. She even returned a few months after being banded to have her gallbladder removed. I've read that there is a lot of slandering that goes on to gain patients over another doctor and then these docs pay these people on the forums in return with free fills or other services, so therefore, can't really decifer what is true, etc. I honestly haven't seen anything like that on this particular site, so I believe that it is on the up and up. I will be self-pay and have researched many different docs in Mexico, after all, safety is more important to me than that of cost when it deals with complications, etc. I'm not planning to be banded until the 1st part of June, so I still have a little time to make a final decision. I believe that I'll probably go with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali though. He seems to have a very good reputation, along with several other Dr.'s including Dr. Joya, but in order to get fills when needed, Puerto Vallarta is too far away for me! Good luck in your search, I hope that you find someone that you will feel comfortable with. I can hardly wait for June to get here to start my new life! Hope to see you on the losing side with me and all of these other wonderful people and their inspiration for me! Jennifer

Hi ladies, I do believe that patient was ME. I had my lapband done by Dr Huacuz then returned to him for the gallbladder surgery also. I had an awesome experience with the Dr and his staff. Enough so I returned for the other surgery. I have referred friends and family and they have all had great experiences and nothing but the best to say regarding the doctor and his staff.. Absolutely great service, felt completely "at home". Its true there is alot of slander regarding this or that doctor, but thats why we owe it to ourselves to do the research. I personally am not paid for my opinions, I just understand the importance of helping others. When I had my surgery done I had no idea websites like these even existed and honestly felt alone and scared. So if I can help, I do. I initially chose Dr Huacuz because his price was the most competetive I could find $7500.00 including airfare, all inclusive.. I couldnt beat that with a stick. And money was an issue for me and my family. I was banded 4/2/05 and I have lost almost 90 lbs since that time. I havent been this thin since junior high. if youre interested in details regarding my stay, etc. Id be glad to talk more with you. But even if you decide on another doctor - that doesnt matter, this is a huge step, the first step. Good for you! Youre completely worth it and you'll be asking yourself why you didnt do it sooner, honestly. My biggest suggestion take lots and lots of before pictures because you wont believe your own success!!! Best of luck to you and God bless. [email protected] g 240/150

I went to Dr. Huacuz and had a Johnson & Johnson band done on July 27, 2005. I was very impressed with him and I have lost 75 lbs since. I did have some problems with my esophagus trying to give me fits about the band for awhile and Dr. Huacuz and his staff were in daily contact with me via e-mail and telephone until the issue was resolved. I have recommended him to several other people, including famiy members. I can only say good things about him. His website is huacuz.com and Dr Romero the nutritionist is very helpful. You are welcome to e-mail me personally if you would like to know more about my experience. ~Barb~ 300/225/150 Dr Huacuz 7/27/05
