thinking about going south!
If you're considering laparoscopic banding I was banded on 1/10/06 by Dr. Pedro Kuri in Tijuana. My other choice was Dr. Joya in Puerto Vallarta (he also does RNY), but traveling from where I live to PV is just clumsy, and I hate to fly. Anyway, my package, including hotel for 2 for 3 nights, transportation to and from the hotel and San Diego airport, all preop tests, the services of 4 different physicians, 2 nights in a beautiful new hospital--plus being personally escorted through the process by a patient representative and an MD--cost $8,950. All I paid on top of that was air fare to San Diego and my husband's meals. He also took 1 taxi ride, but took a free hotel shuttle when coming to the hospital while I was there. I checked out a lot of surgeons and their programs, some are cheaper and also include air fare. Dr. Kuri and his staff just seemed to be what was right for me. I don't know of any other way to check out the various programs other than looking at each one. There's a link to the left of this page that gives a lot of them, and you can find others by doing a Google search for bariatric surgery in Mexico. There are surgeons in Colombia and Argentina as well that have all inclusive packages. Good luck in your search...
I just had my surgery done this friday by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mx. I cannot say enough about the man and his staff. They are absolutely wonderful. I received the best care and the hospital was very clean. They have every instrument or tool needed there at the hospital. It's as up to date as American Hospitals. I received the lapband, $8,200.00 they picked me up from my bf's home in San Diego, but if you come in the airport they will do the same and brought me home as well. Dr. Aceves does both Lapband and RNY, I think his RNY runs about $10,200.00 due to more time in the hospital and complications. The staff there was very professional and very courteous, I've never seen a cleaner hospital in awhile...they clean the rooms at least 3x a day as well as general cleaning outside the hallways. The surgery room looks the same as those in the U.S. I was up and walking about 2hrs after surgery. Dr. Aceves and his staff continually made sure I was okay, Dr. A would come in at least 3x's during the day asking if I was okay or if I needed anything. I would highly recommend Dr. Aceves. Check out tracyslapband.com and mexicolapband.com as well....he does do RNY! Now I am going to here shortly

I am sure you have had many responses but I thought I
would email you anyway.
I had surgery with Dr Aceves in Mexicali Mexico.
He does the surgery in a hospital not a clinic and uses the Inamed band. Last but certainly not least, he is not a revolving door type of Dr. His
prices are about mid range for Mexico Dr's so many people choose the cheapest Dr out there (who usually doesn't use the Inamed band). I think someone in his group said it best, they make you feel like family.
The post op coordinator Nina is his niece and her mother (the Dr's sister) greets you when you walk through the doors of the hospital. They really make you feel like part of the family, not just a dollar sign.
He has a yahoo group for his future and former patients. You can subscribe to his group and talk to all of us
who have had or are planning surgery.
