Hi all, I'm new to the board and will be having the lap-band procedure done in Mexico in a couple weeks. I live in the Tampa Bay area and am desperately looking for a local surgeone to be able to take me as a patient for my aftercare... Do any of you know of any surgeons who would be willing to do this or do any of you have a similar situation and was able to find one? I'm willing to travel up to 200 miles or so... Thank you so much and I look forward to being an active member of this message board...Michelle.

Hi Mikkie! I had surgery in Mexico as well. I live in Minnesota and basically just started calling around to all bariatric clinics in my area to see if the doc would take on a transfer patient for fills. I found two locally that would do fills...both physician's assistants who do fills in the office without flouroscopy. This is the trend now since most docs are overloaded...to use PAs to give the fills. Anyhow, for my first fill, I prefer to have one done under flouroscopy by a doc just to make sure everything looks good (after all, this will be my first 'check-up' since the surgery). Therefore, I will be flying all the way to Texas next Wednesday for a fill. Why to Texas? I got a referral to this doc and was tired calling all over the place. Not only that, but airfare was only $128 RT so I thought this would be okay for me. After my first fill and assuming all goes well, I might feel more comfortable going to the PA here. Sorry I can't give you any info on a doc in your area, but just thought I'd share my story in case it helps at all. GOOD LUCK!

Sometimes your surgeon will have a local referral, it doesn't hurt to ask. Another way is to go to the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS.com) website and select "Find an ASBS Member". You can see those with "foll" after their names. That means they are willing to follow up on another surgeon's patients. -Pam

Pam, thank you so much for that info! It should be ASBS.org, not .com , but I found the website anyway. When I searched for possible fill docs in my area, I found several others listed that I didn't know about! A couple I've already called, but there's one only 13 miles away...I'll call them on Monday. Again, thank you for sharing that information! Cindy
