I had the RNY in June 05. We borrowed the money because insurance wouldn't pay for it. I've been hearing about South of the Border surgeries and am wondering how they set up the payments? Do we still have to borrow the money, or will they work with us on payments? Dena 388/280/180

I'm confused. You state "I had the RNY in June 05." Yet your profile shows you will be having surgery of 2006. You say "We borrowed the money". Some of the doctors may accept financing. My surgeon, Dr. Rumbaut, had financing info on his page. However, I think it was a referral for financing, not a payment plan. The way it worked for me was it was half the cost I would have paid in the US and I was asked to pay up front. I'll also use it on my taxes for 2005 as a medical deduction. -Pam

I had the surgery in 05. I looked at my profile and it does say 2005. I'm not sure where you saw 2006. No biggie. LOL We borrowed the money for the US surgery at a cost of $30,000. My husband is considering the surgery but we can't afford another $30,000, so we're looking at the South of the Border surgery. It is MUCH cheaper as you know. Thanks for all of the information though. Dena

It does say 2005 now. Likely said it all along and I just misread it. Sorry The US Surgery in Seattle they wanted $28,000, it was half that in Mexico. Reading the profiles of folks that post in the South of the Border forum will give you a lot of details of the experiences had the the different doctors and clinics. It appears we all think our doctor was the best. -pam
