I was wondering what they charged for your surgery...I know that it's cheaper in mexico so I was just wondering. I am thinking of having it done in T.J or Ensenada.. not too far from the border. My Insurance Co. denied me so I guess I'm gonna pay for it myself. Please can you share your experience and any advice on having the surgery south of the border? Thank you..Wendy

Dr. Rumbaut charged $10,000 for the laproscopic lapband. That included all hospital fees, medication, and anesthesia. Travel and hotel were seperate. Dr. R is a TERRIFIC surgeon. Here is his website: http://www.gastricband.com/

Hey Wendy! I went with Dr. Aquirre and could not be happier. I had my surgery March 4, 2004. I am almost 10 months out and have lost 116 pounds. He charges $7,400 for the surgery, then the anesthesiologist and hospital is another $2,000. That is $9,400 total. With my airline tickets (round trip for 2), living accomadations while there, transportation to and from the hospital, groceries and souveniers, I paid a grand total of $11,300.00! I would do it again in a heartbeat! Check out his patient forum and read all his glowing reports. If you have any questions, just email me or post. I don't get on as often as I would like, so email would be the way for a fastest response. Good luck in your journey! Genie 270/154/125?

I think I am going with Dr Aquirre... I am almost positive that I am. When you called him, did they schedule your surgery right away? oh and I know that the majority of his patients had open RNY how big was the incision?

I went to Dr. A in Nov of 04. I know the payment is different so I can't help you there! But, he is absolutely wonderful!! After answering all of my questions, I could have scheduled for 2 weeks from the first contact I made. That date didn't work out for me, but it was only 1 month from the time I called that I was in Ensenada having surgery!! He only does the open RNY which I think that is why he is so successful!! The scar really isn't that bad. At first I thought it was, but now it has faded to a very small line down the middle of my belly from my belly button up to where my ribs go together. All the old stretch marks and the loose skin looks much worse than the scar! lol If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!! I am down 125 pounds and feel like a teenager again! I couldn't be happier!! Good luck on your journey!! A

I was wondering about the open RNY.. was it a hard recovery? did you need a drain tube afterward? is the inscision the same size for all patients? Thank you all for your replies and information.I am gonna go ahead and read your profile.. and thank you all for replying I really appreciate it Wendy

Wendy, The first time I called him, my surgery was scheduled for a month away. We were counting on the sale of a house. It fell through and I had to cancel it. I thought I would die! That was a very hard time. The next time I called, I scheduled it for enough time in the future so I knew we would have it. I knew I couldn't go through that again! Dr. A only does the open rny, but in my case, I knew that is what I wanted. I know that sounds weird, but before I had decided to go to Mexico, I was going to go to the bariatric treatment center. They had already convinced me that it was the gold standard and had better success rates. When I first had my surgery, my incision was 14 inches long. Now that I have lost so much weight, it is only 7 inches long! It will go from right below your sternum to right above your naval, so the length will depend on how much stomach you have! Anyway, it was all worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat! GOOD LUCK! Let me know when you get a date!

Hi Wendy, I went to Dr. Huacuz in TJ, and it cost $7,000. for everything - airfare, transportation to TJ from airport, lapband, hospital, hotel for recovery, etc. The incisions were tiny and I healed just fine. Dr. Huacuz did such a good job that I went back to him a year later for cosmetic surgery and it turned out perfectly too. Good luck on your decision!
