Laparascopic RNY Bypass
If any of you have had this proceedure done in Mexico, will you email me with your good and/or bad experiences? I'm considering Dr. Armando Joya and would love to hear other experiences...more specifically post-surgery recovery, what to expect etc...Thank you for you help!

My daughter had it done on 12-20 in Monterrey Mexico by Dr Miguel A Zapata and Dr. Zorrilla. We are still in Monterrey but expect to leave on Friday. My daughter has had a wonderful experience, even with 4 hours of scar tissue removal which made her surgery last approx 7 hours. Dr Zapata went beyond what any doctor would have done in the US. She lost a lot of blood and has a type that is not available in Mexico. so she received 3 units of another type of blood which can be done. We had 3 doctors we checked out prior to making a decision. Dr Joya was one, but the go between he uses would never answer our questions. When speaking with Dr Zapata, he being the doctor answered promptly. I feel very good about the decision to go with Dr Zapata. He has been wonderful. Hope this helps.

I just got back from my surgery with Dr Joya. I can tell you that I was impressed. He and his team are amazing doctors. They were there when you needed them and were always just a phone call away.
The hospital that they are using right now is clean, well staffed and better then my local hospital. The care I received was far better than I would have gotten had I had the surgery here at home.
My surgery went off without a hitch, and it amazed me how well I felt afterwards.
When you are in the hospital the Dr's stop by a couple times a day and once you go to the hotel, they stop by daily.
The service and care I received was top notch.
I would definately reccommend Dr Joya for this surgery.
I had Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey for lap RNY in June of this year. My experience was wonderful, I could not have asked for better care. THe care from Dr. R and his team were better than I've ever experienced in any US hospital. Please read my profile for more.
As for post-op recovery and what to expect:
Immediately post op I was only uncomfortable, no major pain, it was tolerable. I was up and out of bed walking around less than 12 hours after surgery. There are no funky drain tubes or anything with Dr. Rumbaut, he does the surgery exactly as the docs here do it. I had my swallow study the morning after surgery, everything was fine so I got to have clear liquids from that point on. Of course my diet progressed. It's suprising how I had to keep telling myself I had just had major surgery. The tiny little incisions, and how good you feel are a little misleading. I got mad at myself for getting tired so easily, I had to keep telling myself, "Relax, you just went through major surgery, it takes time to feel better!" Post op recovery is easy. Adjusting to all the changes in your diet and body are a different story. Even if I would have to go through my struggles ten times over, I'd do this again. I am very, very happy with the results and I'm only 7 months out!

~Audrey~ loved joya,only problem i had was lack of comunication because natalie was out of town. gerald was har to get intouch with at times.but on the other hand it was christmas what can you expect. i did have a serious problem when i had a reaction to some sleeping medicine they gave me. they wanted to give me more to correct the problem1 i said nooooo!.but i usually react the opposite to most meds! the anestesia was great no naseau buzzing ears nothig!usually i wake up barfing my heals and cussing like a sailor because i had warned them about the reaction!the hospital staff were really sweet! they tried to understand my flaping hand motions and slaughtered spanish!ALL IN ALL IT REALLY WAS AN EXCELLENT TRIP.i didn't wan't to come home! i know thats awfull to say but there was so much to see. my sister had to keep reminding me i had sx. slow down!i would say email me for more info but i get runtime erroe when i try to reply.i don't think i give an alternate email name on this site o what the hell email me at [email protected] of luck !vg
i didn't mention that no one puts enough stress on ...how should i put this...that you will pass dark old blood after starting fluid on your own! i thought i was in serious trouble. the dr. said"dark blood good bright not good"if only i had been told ahead of time it would have saved me alot of anxiety! once again i think if natalie had been around she might warn of this type of thing to expect! best of luck!vg

good Subject. I was prepared, so I thought, that this would happen. I do not think EVERY RNY pt always experiences this. The girls that were operated on during my stay, had no symptoms. Being a nurse, I know that one drop of blood, hits tolie****er..and it looks big and bloody! The first stool I had, I was okay. The second one minutes later, I sorta panicked, worried, that oh no, I am here alone and yaddy yaddy! Within 5 minutes, I had 5 doctors at my bedside. As a nurse, I know the smell of old blood. The concerning part, would be bright red fresh blood, but it was little bit sorta hard to tell. The third episode, we "caught" it in a bedpan I put on toliet. It was very clear...it was dark, old and not bright.
This does happen frequently, and good post, so those can remember if they find this happening to them!!!
