I am speaking of Experience here, I have found that american doctors do not give a hoot what kinda band you have, they typically do not want to follow up mexico docs pts. yes, there are exceptions, and in Dallas there is one group, yeah...they will see you, and charge 1K for a fill. They do not ask what type a band, other than the fill limits. Yes, I think you should get your ducks in a row, with proper follow up doc. Be an informed consumer. Basically, that goes for any type of medical care these days in USA. You are the consumer, you have to demand and be advocate of your own healthcare these days. Sandy in Texas

I think that if you are planning on having the surgery in Mexico or any other foreign country, you need to make sure that you will have a follow up doc here in the states. That is with any type of surgery. I know that most docs here in the states will not touch you if you had surgery elsewhere, which I think if a bunch of crap, just because we find other sources for our surgical needs, we get punished for it. Most docs in the states don't understand that we want this surgery just as bad as everyone else and will do anything for it. I was very fortunate and found a doc that understood this and followed up with me as long as I didn't have any complications. But I think that this is good for anyone who is considering having this done in Mexico, do your research and go with the doc you feel the most comfortable with and make sure they know what you want and demand what you want and make sure that you have a doc that will follow up with you after you get back. Exactly Jen! I was banded in 2002, before the FDA approval. Then the USA docs soon jumped on board, and things changed with aftercare. My doctor in Mexico, had a nephew in Dallas that did fills, but soon as the boom hit in USA on banding, he joined in, and aftercare become more difficult. I am chosing to have RNY for many reasons, This being one of them. With the RNY aftercare is needed for sure, but can be done by your PCP as far as lab work. Securing your aftercare no matter what surgery you chose, is a must!! BTW, jen, your looking so good, and doing great!! Sandy in Texas having RNY in PV, Dr. Joya on 11/30

Thanks! I just can't believe how much better I feel. This is the best thing that I have spent this much money on and the best thing that I have done for myself. You will love Dr. Joya and his staff. Good luck and let us know how you do!!! Jen
