Money Fell Thru
I got the call today that I half expected. The bank won't refinace my car for the amount I needed. I was hoping to refinance and then use my credit card for the rest.
The bank will do an equity loan and will approve me for that but my husband won't allow it. He doesn't want me to have it done anyway.
Sort of depressing. I was sooo looking forward to having it done.
Sorry to hear that. Why doesn't your husband want you to do this? Isn't he very support of you? I know it was hard to get the financing and I am now paying through the nose for my loan, but I would pay a million dollars to have this done again!!! Maybe you should have your husband do some searching on this site and read some amazing susscess stories. That really helped my fiance to make the decision. Also get some books or go to a support group. Good luck and please if he had any questions or if there is anything I can do to help you, let me know. I know what it is like to be in your position. I wish I was a millianaire so I could help people finance this surgery!!! Good luck and keep looking, there is money out there!!!

What a bummer--I'm having the same problem, but have a few more options. I have some property I didn't really want to sell, but it looks like I'll have to in order to finance my surgery. Guess I have to look at it as my health being more important. Hopefully your husband will come around--he may be scared of the changes your weight loss will make in your relationship....
As most people do, my husband believes that all you have to do is eat the "right foods", work out, and the weight will come off. Which it does but always seems to creep back.
I have spent money on the gym and food programs. (expensive ones I might add) So he is looking at this as just one more thing I am wasting money on.
If I look at it that way it does seem that he is right. No matter what. The weight just won't go away. I really look at this surgery as my last hope.
Sounds like you are giving up way too easily!
The only way surgery will happen is if you make it happen, period! And that doesn't matter if you are having it done in the US and paid for by insurance or in Mexico with cash. There are hoops you need to jump through, and if you really, truly feel that surgery is your last hope and it's what you want then you need to keep researching ways to make it happen. I had to apply for several different loans before I found the money. I also have a husband who didn't want me to have WLS. I knew deep down inside that WLS was what I needed, so even though the path was difficult, I kept going until I reached my goal. The only person who can stop you is YOU!
Good luck!
Hi Sj,
Sorry, to hear that the money fell through. I know it's so hard to try and figure out a way to pay for the surgery. I'm envious of those with insurance (well, those with insurance that have no problems getting approved). Anywho, you have to decide what is right for you in the long run, I mean being overweight will finally catch up with you healthwise. Would your husband rather pay out the nose for diabetic medicines, problems with feet/legs and other areas of the body, not to mention the increased likelihood of a heart attack?? I'm sure you've battled with him on these comorbidities but you have to think how you want to live the rest of your life. I am sure he is having insecure thoughts of you losing the weight and not needing him. My bf was concerned at first with my decision but now understands how much the weight has done to my physical and mental health. He's even willing to loan me 3k till I round up the rest of the money on my own, so I've been thankful for his support. Do some research and see what type of loans are out there, check to see if their are doctors willing to work with you on payment plans. I know Dr. Aceves will work with his patients if they have come up with the majority of the money. I've talked to one patient and she still have over 2k to pay but he was willing to work with her on the payments. Don't give up, keep the faith...talk to the hubby, perhaps show hiim some of the pictures of those that have lost weight and how healthy they look. There is also a forum here for Husbands/ Spouses of WLS patients...you just have to find it and perhaps he can go there to read their experiences.
I'll send positive thoughts your way, and I wish you the best of luck!!!
Kelli
